Our client is looking for a Research Group Leader: Enterprise Architecture and Engineering in the Integrative systems competency area within the Defence, Peace, Safety and Security (DPSS) unit. The incumbent will be responsible for the leading, development and growth of staff in a research group and ensure the highest technical quality standards in the group’s outputs,quality SET outputs from the research group that they lead, and the professional development and transformation of their SET capacity.


Key responsibilities:
• Contribute to the research strategy with other Research Group Leaders, Technology Managers, Principle Engineers, Area Managers
and Competency Area Manager;
• Provide and coordinate the strategic leadership within the research group, as well as provide inputs at competency area level in
conjunction with other senior engineers;
• Motivate and lead the research group and individual engineers/researchers to deliver on the research strategy;
• Provide strategic input to the other research groups to enable a synergistic operation;
• Effective management of scientists and engineers (effective utilization of performance management systems);
• Ensure staff development, strategic human capital development (profiles, capacity and development) to guide individual researchers/engineers through their careers;
• Ensure implementation of quality initiatives and retaining ISO accreditation;
• Develop and mature processes within the research group to improve the efficiency of the group and the quality of outputs;
• Manage pipeline such as bursaries, studentships and scholarships for human capital development;
• Construct and implement a business plan for operation, sustainable growth and robustness of the research group;
• Strategic stakeholder interaction (“competence aligned” stakeholders and clients) and liaison with external stakeholders, together with Area
Manager and Science Engineering and Technology leadership;
• Ensuring working partnership with Contract R&D Leadership for SET competence development;
• Propose, plan and implement the Parliamentary Grant, and other grant funded projects as well as those under SANDF block funding;
• Ensure science, engineering and technology (SET) leadership outputs (productivity) and quality in ISG is aligned to required KPIs.

Qualifications, skills and experience:
• A Master’s Degree in computer science or engineering, preferably industrial engineering;
• At least fifteen years’ experience in enterprise architecture;
• Five years’ experience in financial, human resources and business mechanism and processes;
• TOGAF9 or Zachman Enterprise Architecture certification;
• EA Tool Configuration & Use;
• Business and Governance Management: COBIT5;
• IT Service Management: ITILv3;
• Maturity/Capability Dev: CMMI-Support & -Development;
• Planning: Project Management;
• Direct enterprise architecture, domain architecture and solution architecture projects;
• Ability to operate in a diverse and broad range of strategic and contextual to conceptual nature;
• Manage teams in a multi-disciplinary environment
