Main purpose of the job
To focus on child health in a rural setting and related evidence-based approaches in setting priorities for health interventions. The work will build on the already established base of exciting and innovative economic evaluation that is immediately relevant to health priorities in South Africa.

Mpumalanga Province

Key performance areas
To provide analytical support to the Agincourt team.
Strengthen local capacity to develop economic evidence for setting priorities
Provide statistical and economic analysis support to the team
To take leadership on individual studies conducted
Technical involvement in studies of the MRC/Wits-Agincourt Unit and how they articulate with the health sector in South Africa.
To focus on rural children in the Agincourt district and will require extensive collaboration with the MRC/Wits-Agincourt Unit and PRICELESS.
Production of a State of Agincourt Children Report for academic and policy audiences.
Identification of intervention priorities and redefine district-provincial implementation efforts.

Required minimum education and training
• Masters Degree in Public Health with strong quantitative skills in Epidemiology or Demography, Public Health and Statistics.
• Broad technical competence.
• Proficiency in any of the following statistical software packages: Stata, SAS and R.
• Experience of working with relational databases would be an advantage.
• Some experience in qualitative analysis is beneficial.
• Strong communication skills.
• Capacity for attention to detail and accuracy.
• Demonstrated resourcefulness and intellectual creativity.

Required minimum work experience
2 years’ experience in Health Economics
