Seafreight Manager - Port Elizabeth

There is an opportunity for a seasoned manager who is focused on service excellence to join the Port Elizabeth team as Seafreight Manager.

• Accountability for effectiveness of all seafreight operations in the branch.
• Effective management of resources within the department to meet current and future demands and to give effect to business plans and budget.
• Active management of all financial reports and tools in the Department to ensure maximum revenue and cost management.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with major clients and ensuring their needs are met.

• Driving the management of performance of all teams in the department for compliance with work instructions and overall performance standards.
• Effective implementation of all QSHE guidelines and continuous improvement efforts.
• Maintaining accurate production statistics Staying abreast of all market related services and rates and ensuring that clients are advised of any rate or service amendments from any supplier, sub-contractor or carrier.
• Daily monitoring of the un/under invoiced files, accruals and FSL.
• Daily monitoring of all seafreight roles and tasks via relevant tracking tools to prioritise urgent and overdue tasks estimating and assisting with estimates and ensuring that they are countersigned.
• Collaborating with the Sales Department with regards to sell rates and approval thereof in the relevant quotation tool.
• The effective management of buy rates in collaboration with the BU Managers and relevant procurement stakeholders.
• Attending to all tenders where required Overseeing all CBO accounts, approved clearing invoices and the quality of workflow overall.
• Comprehensive people management for the branch seafreight team.
• Authorizing all relevant credit note and/or loss requisitions and investigate the matter to implement corrective action where required corrective action where required. Actively servicing top customers through:
o Continuous management of SOP’s and MOP’s to reflect customer requirements.
o Delivery of bespoke management information to customers.
o Active management of corrective action processes to drive improvements.
o Regular performance and business reviews (QBR’s) and post QBR action item execution Close collaboration with relevant National Key Account Managers to support optimisation of processes.
o Continuous training to all operational staff where required.


Your skills and experience
• Bachelor Degree in Commerce or equivalent qualification will be a distinct advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse a P&L and provide constructive feedback.
• Minimum of 5 years' comprehensive experience in the freight industry in a supervisory / managerial role.
• Advanced level of computer literacy and experience in use and advanced ability to manipulate data and prepare useful reports for management decision making.
• Proven ability to lead a team.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Service orientated and able to drive root cause analysis and problem resolution.
• Ability to communicate positively and credibly.
• Ability to solve operational challenges and align with stakeholders.
• Ability to provide direction and structure to operational teams to align with standard operating procedures and shared services requirement.
• Demonstrated ability to project manages continuous improvement projects including system integrations and roll-outs.
• Excellent understanding of the sea freight market and ability to research, analyse and interpret trends through advanced data manipulation in Excel.

• Ability to work in a team and proactively share information to enable customer excellence.
