My Client, a Group of Companies that has a leading role in the diamond exploration, and diamond mining industry is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Security Manager

PURPOSE AND ROLE IN THE BUSINESS:- 

The successful candidate will have overall accountability and responsibility for developing and co-ordinating the implementation of the Venetia Mine security operational plan in alignment with the De Beers security strategy. The role reports directly to the General Manager and is accountable for all matters relating to security risk management and optimization of security services at the mine. This includes managing the activities of the Security team as well as cross-functional collaboration with other disciplines to fully integrate the security processes into the business value chain and ensuring that optimum security protection measures are in place to protect the mine’s product, people and assets from harm, loss or misappropriation through criminal activities and/or other misconduct.  

KEY RESULT AREAS:-

  • Development and implementation of the Venetia Mine operational security plan in alignment with the DBCM strategic business plan and De Beers’s security strategy.
  • Management of the overall security risk management process at the mine, ensuring that regular security threat, vulnerability and risk assessments are performed and appropriate measures implemented to mitigate risk and minimise loss.
  • Implementation of the De Beers’s security governance directives and frameworks (i.e. security standards, policies, procedures, protocols, best practices and methodologies) and establishment of a monitoring capability to verify adherence thereto.
  • Establishment of an effective management assurance process through regular self-assessment reviews performed against the Security Maturity Model criteria.
  • Continual assessment of the security controls and operational security practices for inefficiencies, possible improvement opportunities and implementation of an integrated security improvement program to enhance value delivery.
  • Leading change, from identifying opportunities for improvement, to advocating and supporting a better approach to address problems and work process issues.
  • Establishing a fit for purpose Security organisation with the right talent deployed in the right place at the right time.
  • Building professional competence and capacity within the Security function with staffing levels maintained according to business needs and employee performance and development optimally managed.
  • Building a strong security culture and positive social contract with employees at each critical layer within the organisation through security awareness and internalisation programmes.
  • Establishing strong and sustainable relationships/partnerships/alliances with external stakeholders.
  • Development and implementation of contingency plans to ensure effective management of crisis situations including regular staff training, drills and exercises to maintain a constant state of readiness.
  • Procurement and effective performance management of external security service providers in alignment with prescribed procurement policies and procedures.
  • Management of all on-mine security investigations ensuring adherence to the De Beers security standards and directives, legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Evaluation, selection, deployment and management of security systems in accordance with Group Standards.
  • Development and implementation of a technical operating and maintenance plan that ensures optimal systems utilisation.
  • Co-ordination of all on-mine information gathering activities ensuring that the acquired information is effectively utilisation to guide the application of the security control measures at the operation.
  • Close collaboration with relevant local and regional law enforcement and justice agencies to address specific threats. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Education & Experience):-

  •  Grade 12 certificate or relevant NQF level 4 qualifications.
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification, e.g. Bachelor’s Degree or National Higher Diploma in Security or appropriate Risk Management field or recognised NQF equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the security discipline of which at least five years must be at supervisory/ managerial level at an operation.
  • PSIRA Registration Grade “A”.
  • Code 08 (EB) driver’s license.
  • Medical fitness as per inherent requirements of the job.
  • Security cleared as per company requirements and verification of qualifications.

  • A comprehensive understanding of the security function gained through formal education and complemented with practical experience as a security professional.
  • A thorough understanding of the mining and processing environments that enables and supports the proactive identification of vulnerabilities that could be exploited by those with criminal intent.
  • Advanced knowledge of diamond security business processes and factors that influence the diamond winning process.
  • In depth knowledge of diamond mining and metallurgical diamond recovery processes.
  • Knowledge and application of industry legislation.
  • Ability to build capacity by mentoring and coaching.
  • Multi-disciplinary mind-set (appreciate the impact of own practices on the practices of other disciplines).
  • Good knowledge and understanding of methodologies relating to physical, electronic and information security, and other security technologies.
  • Strong planning, decision-making and organisational skills.
  • Good commercial acumen.
  • High-quality analytical skills, strategic thinking and security risk management skills.
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict, give and take constructive criticism and also have a strong persuasive impact on others.

  • Must have been accountable for a P&L and conducted business planning process, financial and business astuteness.
  • Strong results focus and proven record of accomplishment of high performance and delivery according to tight deadlines in challenging environments.
