Our client is looking to employ a Senior Aquatic Scientist with a minimum of 8+ years’ relevant experience. This is a permanent position, based in their Johannesburg office.

Qualifications and Experience:

• MSc in Aquatic Health, Environmental Science or related field.
• Registered as Professional Natural Scientist (Pr. Sci. Nat) with SACNASP.
• Department of Water and Sanitation SASS5 accredited.
• Comprehensive understanding of aquatic ecology features, including fish, diatom, and macro invertebrate and vegetation communities.
• Experience in undertaking and/or managing wetland related studies including wetland delineations and WET-Health Assessments.
• Experience of specifying, planning and conducting field surveys.
• Experience in undertaking and managing large (multi-year) monitoring projects (including reporting, financial management, project quality planning etc.).
• Experience in the preparation of proposals and tenders
• Experience of providing mitigation recommendations
• Experience with GIS and mapping software
• Experience with multivariate statistical software would be advantages
Position Profile:
• Provide high level advice and technical input into aquatic ecology investigations.
• Undertake, produce and technically review environmental assessments of various activities on aquatic ecology features.
• To work effectively with water companies, developers, design engineers, contractors, planners and other regulators to help achieve positive outcomes of developments.
• Complete tenders and quotations, including large and complex proposals.
• Develop follow-on work and new opportunities as they arise from existing work.
• Build and maintain relationships with customers through project and bidding activities.
• Manage the technical work of more junior staff and sub-consultants.

Other Requirements:

• Excellent team working skills together with strong communication skills and a close attention to detail
• Excellent report writing skills, including survey reports, scoping reports and EIA reports
• Good IT skills in commonly used software, e.g. Microsoft Office, Internet, email.
• Good GIS and mapping skills
• Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must have traceable, contactable references.
