Job purpose:
The Senior BI Developer is responsible for the technical implementation of current and future data warehouse, business intelligence solutions and data migration strategies. Proficient  with the design of database architectures, data warehouses, data migrations, data marts,  business intelligence packages, and implementing user reporting solutions based upon  business requirement and content knowledge. Must have strong technical capability to drive projects or assignments to completion on schedule with junior team members and mid-level business professionals. Strong understanding of database methodology, data analysis, advanced SQL , ETL and  business intelligence applications.   


Implement BI strategies for operational, ad-hoc, and other BI related solutions;   

Use SQL,PL/SQL, ETL, business intelligence tools, and database 

programming and reporting tools to implement new requirements.  

Continuously assess environment and make recommendations for improvement.

 

Collaborate with internal and external team members to deliver robust, high quality business intelligence solutions. 

 

Provide BI Integration Solutions and Services.  

Ensure the production of technical documentation for BI Integration Solutions and Services 

 

Develop new capabilities and architectures that capitalize on the development of client dashboards and ad-hoc BI capabilities   

 

Qualifications

  • BSc (Computer Science); BCom (Information Systems) or similar professional qualification.
  • Business Analysis; Programming; System Analysis, Object-Oriented Design (OOD), Multimedia Content Development, Software Debugging qualifications will be an advantage. 

 

Experience 

  • Experience in Applications Services. 
  • Extensive experience in outsource environments with 7 to10 year’s relevant experience. 
  • Management of application development life cycle

 

Knowledge: 

  • Business Requirements
  • System Analysis
  • Design & Data Modeling
  • Data warehouse Design methodologies and architecture
  • Oracle Data Integration suite, including ODI, Oracle Data Quality and/or Oracle Data Profiler, working with multiple source/target systems such as Oracle,  XML files, flat files, MS access/excel documents, warehouse and ETL processes and tools such as ODI, Data Stage, Oracle Business Intelligence  Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), Demonstrated ability to facilitate systems reviews, conduct business process analysis, conduct functional gap analysis.  

  • Teamwork, General Verbal Communication, Software Architecture
  • Knowledge of Business Applications support services in an outsourced environment including escalations and root-cause analysis
  • Knowledge of laws, precedents, and government regulations around Government Finance (i.e. PFMA), SITA Act, Electronic Communications Act, etc. 
  • Knowledge of Business Applications fit on business continuity requirements with a specific focus on security and disaster recovery
  • ETL experience, including BI toolset, Advanced level of writing stored procedures, reading query plans, tuning indexes, and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks.  
  • Solid Data Warehousing experience utilizing OLAP toolset
