Corporate company based in Midrand Johannesburg is currently recruiting a Senior ETL Developer to join their team. 

The role will encompass the following area's:

  • Develop the Produces logical and technical BI specifications from functional specifications

  • Design and code new solutions and changes to existing systems

  • Design relevant BI logical data models, databases and star-schemas

  • Debug code and conduct system testing, security assessments, performance assessments and user interfaces

  •  Provide systems support within SLAs

System Analysis & design of solutions:

  • Gain a solid understanding of the underlying businesses

  • Schedule and facilitate JAD sessions to define user requirements and technical systems design

  • Compile BI functional and technical specifications using templates and standards as set by management

  • Align business requirements with best practice BI solutions

Develop BI Programs:

  • Responsible for database table administration, BI Cube administration and maintenance

  • Design and develop the ETL processes and database table development in the data stage environment

  • Work collaboratively with the BI Analyst to support the operational data store and data warehouse

  • Responsible for integration of source system data into the data warehouse

  • Responsibility for the ETL (extract, transform & load) process

  • Develop Logical and physical data models.

Implement BI programs:

  • Analyse the impact of BI changes or fixes prior to implementation

  • Ensure that end user acceptance testing is appropriately conducted

  • Ensure data is clean and credible to support strategic decision-making

BI Systems Support:

  • Provide support and resolve issues within respective SLAs

  • Conduct System Administration duties to support the Business Intelligence environment

  • Analyse, identify and resolves system problems

  • Documentation of system specifications, data warehouse structures, impact analysis, functional designs, technical specifications, testing plans, system integration and entity relationship models

Special Requirements

  • Must be prepared to work overtime.
  • Must be prepared to travel, including into Africa.

Qualifications:

  • IT Degree or Diploma alternatively
  • Extensive experience 4+ years with no tertiary degree or certificate

Prior Experience:

Minimum:

  • Extensive Experience of 3 years or longer in BI systems design and programming

Critical knowledge:

  • Expert knowledge of BI systems development lifecycle (minimum 3 years’ experience)
  • Ability to translate business requirements into BI technical requirements
  • Comprehensive SQL and relational / multidimensional database designs skills (minimum 3 years’ experience)
  • Expert Microsoft Literacy (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, MS Access)
  • Must have 3 years proven ETL experience, such as SSIS, Datastage, Informatica etc.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of business intelligence principles, data warehouse and data governance practices

 

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Planning methods and techniques – ability to define work breakdown structure and provide estimates of effort involved
  • Systems testing experience
  • Programming – to standards and maintainable code writing
  • Data access techniques including writing complex stored procedures
  • Inspections/code reviews – good understanding of the language, data access best practise, programming standards, technical environment, application of programming languages
  • Debugging tools – knowledge of what is available, capabilities – Visual Studio 2008 minimum
  • Data modelling – experienced data modeller
