The company also provides bulk ingredients, and bulk trading and procurement services.

Qualifications / Skills:

Min National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Food Technology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry with minimum 5 years relevant experience
Must be competent in required methods and instrumentation
Understand the basic requirements of ISO 17025
Must have at least four years’ laboratory experience in the relevant field
Be a Technical Signatory
The ability to work independently (laboratory procedures) and under pressure
The ability to identify and solve problems
Ability to train, supervise and manage staff
Have an awareness of other people and the environment and one’s own impact on these
The ability to get on with people in different situations and to work with others to achieve mutual goals
The ability to operate required equipment and apparatus safely and accurately
Ability to work within laboratory safety requirements

Responsibilities:

Maintaining his/her work area in a clean condition
Cleaning and washing of relevant laboratory ware and equipment
Correct disposal of chemicals, solvents and laboratory waste (general and biohazardous waste) according to the relevant Standard Operating Procedure
Must wear correct Personal Protective Equipment
Ability to demonstrate technical knowledge
Ensure adequate stock control levels
Check for Shelf life (Expiry dates) and storage condition
Verification of equipment as per prescribed schedule

Testing requirements
Outsourcing (where required)
Prepare samples as per the required procedure or methodology
Testing sample as per required procedure or methodology
Conduct Proficiency testing
Experience in wet chemistry of water, use of GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC, AAS, ICP and Chromatographic analyzers
Method Modification and Development and validation of new methods:
Identify method changes and training required
Identify new technology and validate new equipment/ technology
Understand and accept all relevant Standard Operating Procedures
Interpretation of results and reporting
Compiling of analytical reports and/or certificates of analysis and submitting them to approved signatory
Assist with customer complaints investigation – must be able to run the quality system (ISO 17025) as a stand-in for the Quality Manager, Internal auditing when requested
Must read all relevant MSDSs
Comply to health and safety requirements of Laboratory
Manage staff in their duties and test results
Manage work flow, and work environment effectively
Manage work turn-around-times properly, including staff
Manage sample receiving, storage and handling to effective turn-around-time and elimination of any compromising of samples.
Responsible for projects allocated by the Laboratory Manager or Supervisors
Assist with non-conformances and corrective actions
Take on additional roles or responsibility assigned by the Laboratory Manager, as and when required (ie: EHS roles, etc)
Technical Signatory duties
Competent in relevant methods
Checking and verification of the correlation of results
Ensuring client requirements/specifications are met
Immediate availability is required at all times
