Senior Data Base Administrator
Location: Woodstock, Cape Town
Purpose of the Role:To provide specialist input to frame and maintain the required architecture/systems and the execution of data base administration functions. Is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a database.
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in IT/IS with minimum 8 years work experience as a Oracle Database Administrator and 3 years on Sybase database
- Certification in Oracle is a must for this job
- Must have expertise in Sybase ASE 12.5 and Oracle 10.g
- Should have knowledge of SQL, SCO – UNIX (Latest Version)
- MSSQL Server Database Administration is an added advantage
- Extensive knowledge on Sun Solaris/AIX/Unix
- Background in Financial Services Industry is preferred.
Responsibilities:- Installation, configuration, and upgrade of all databases including but not limited to
- Oracle 10g /11g
- Sybase 12.5 / 15
- Microsoft Sql Server
- Firebird
- Pervasive
- Progress
- Ability to conduct preventative maintenance and backup and recovery of databases
- Running Backups and verifying logs.
- Sound Knowledge of Oracle and OS (Operating System) VMs (Virtual Machines).
- Continuous monitoring and trouble shooting of issue related database and performance tuning.
- Monitoring and managing database replication between production and DR environments
- Suggest and implement high availability and redundancy strategies.
- Monitoring and maintenance of database environment.
- Develop and deploy monitoring and alert scripts for databases.
- Implement regular maintenance Plans.
- Responsible for quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data.
- Testing of new patches released and fixes
- Database security maintenance including user creations, groups, roles maintenance.
- Tracking of Logs and Alerts from database
- Detailed impact analysis performance
- Map system architecture and evaluate the requirements of new applications and systems and impact on the database
- Restoring data on the test environment to make sure that there is no corruption on the backup.
- Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline;
- Considering both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users;
- Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model;
- Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements;
- Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS(Database Management Systems);
- Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act;
- Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
- Maintenance of error logs and Knowledge Base.
- Capacity planning; Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and developers.
