Description: A company in the energy sector requires a Senior Financial Advisor. Key duties will include: Lead and be responsible for the valuation and risk analysis of new projects (including review of financial models) and for the preparation of financing plans, selection of funding sources/banks, structuring and execution of acquisitions and project financing. Be responsible for or supervise and approve work on non-project related AIFA activities (e.g. annual impairment tests, lookbacks, etc). Manage, supervise, train and coach junior members of the team. Monitor and assess liquidity, terms and general trends of project finance debt markets (as applicable to the Region), including: international commercial banks, regional and local commercial banks, relevant export credit and multilateral agencies, other funding institutions. Monitor and assess competitors’ approaches to financing projects. The geographical coverage is both for South Africa and Sub-Saharan African countries. However, flexibility might be required to also support activities in other sub-regions of SAMEA. The Senior Financial Advisor will report to a Head of Acquisitions, Investments and Financial Advisory (AIFA).

Requirements: Finance/Economics based degree or a professional qualification such as CFA, CIMA, ACA or ACCA. Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years spent working in AIFA/M&A or project finance. Demonstrable track record in leading financing efforts for bids and/or leading planning and execution of project financings (at least one bid and one financial closure to be achieved). Experience in leading the valuation efforts for an acquisition deal, and/or financing efforts for a bid (including leading projects/transactions to financial close). Experience in planning and managing processes and proven experience in managing people within a project team environment. Demonstrable prior experience of leading the project financing for power projects in RSA (e.g. having worked on a REIPPP bid and/or financing) or in any other country in Africa would be a valuable experience for the role. Fluency in English is required (knowledge of any African language or French would be a significant advantage).

Additional Requirements: Strong and proven analytical skills, including proficient financial modelling. Commercial acumen with good understanding of accounting topics and tax structures. Planning ability and capacity to deliver on plans and to work independently. Strong leadership qualities, people management skills and ability to motivate team members. Able and willing to train, coach and support more junior team members. Ability to multitask and to work effectively under pressure. Strong communication skills (including adequate knowledge of PowerPoint). Behavioural capabilities: problem solving, strong interpersonal skills, common sense and sense of humour. Frequent travel to other countries within Sub-Saharan Africa and SAMEA HQ (Dubai). Available to travel outside region (e.g. Paris, London).
