Our dynamic company is looking for you, a Senior HR Consultant, to join us in pursuit of our mission of establishing local biological and vaccine manufacturing capability at its Cape Town based site. Being the only one of its’ kind in South Africa, Biovac strives to respond to the vaccine needs of the developing countries, specifically South Africa and Sub Saharan Africa. This is a particularly exciting time for the company as it continues to grow, strengthen and build on its success and further develop its capabilities, products, services and market diversification.

The key purpose of this role:
• To provide an integrated and professional generalist HR service to management and staff inclusive of expertise across all HR value streams.
• To continually strive to develop and deliver innovative solutions for the purpose of continuous improvement of our people practices and approach.
• To manage the implementation of HR related activities within all departments through managers of others.

Reporting line:

The successful incumbent will report to the Head of Human Resources.

The Key Performance Areas for this position include:
• Ensure consistency amongst departments in terms of HR governance and best practice
• Identify operational HR risks within departments and identify and recommend interventions in order to reduce/prevent and rectify such risk
• Develop Organisational Development and Innovation proposals in support of organisational change and evolution and monitor and report on OD initiatives’ return on investment
• Implement the company’s Performance and Talent Management methodology and provide continuous training and coaching to ensure consistency in application and approach
• Facilitate the development, implementation and tracking of learning & development initiatives, including internal and external learning programmes in accordance with our talent development strategy, as well as the revised codes of good practice supporting Transformation and BEE and the companys’ EE plan
• Represent HR in the Employment Equity Forum and ensure sufficient Employment Equity planning, as well as the implementation thereof, is achieved in accordance with our transformation strategy and the revised codes of good practice supporting BEE and in support of the companys’ EE plan
• Develop (Maintain and improve - as there are these trackers in place that were done after talent Mgt discussions and I get feedback) talent & succession dashboards and tracking systems and drive mitigation where skills gaps are identified, particularly for critical roles
• Drive employee recognition programmes effectively within departments to ensure impact and value
• Advise, consult and coach managers of others around IR matters in accordance with best practice and current labour legislation and ensure risks are mitigated across all departments
• Represent the company at CCMA
• Prepare and submit legislative reporting in accordance with deadlines to the Seta, Department of Labour, Stats SA and other bodies
• Compile monthly, quarterly and annual HR reporting to Management Committees and other stakeholders
• Audit HR administration to ensure to ensure accuracy and data quality
• Generate HR analytics and measures in demonstrating HR impact on the business


Technical competencies required to succeed in this role:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience at a senior generalist or middle Management level in strategic Human Resources Management and Organisational Development, preferably in a Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical or related environment.
• Sound & current knowledge of South African Labour Legislation including LRA, BCEA, EEA, SDLA including recent updates to this legislation.
• Strong computer literacy in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Email, and Internet
• Conciliation and Arbitration experience at CCMA
• Knowledge on local and global HR best practice, policy and procedure and ability to transfer such knowledge through training others
• Proven and tested Training and Presentation skills
• Strong ability and experience in managing multiple projects/ activities concurrently through project planning and implementation
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage stakeholder expectations
