An online marketing company centred in Cape Town currently has a vacancy for a Senior Java Developer. The Senior Developer will have hands on development responsibilities over front end site and e-commerce platform (including its integration in to the back office ERP). The candidate will be responsible for • Java development work, • Development processes and best practices, • Defining system and solution architecture and actively developing software products in conformance to the specification, • Technical strategy/direction and of the company. • With a focus on Java, utilising cutting edge Web/Mobile Development technology develop products over various technology platforms • Architect major enhancements for existing products in production or new architectures for green field projects • Embrace agile methodology with a focus on delivery in line with business need • Consult with product owner and business analysts in the definition of products and requirements • Inject new technology and learning in to the team • Mentorship of more junior resources • Ensure a high standard development, overall product quality and compliance to standards Competencies • Professional • Proactive • Assertive • Integrity • Delivery orientated • Can do attitude • Problem solving • Comfortable in mixed language and technology team • Open source experience Qualifications • BSc or BTech Degree required • Good understanding of Computer Science principles especially SOA, TDD, DDD, Web/Mobile 2.0 and distributed systems • Strong web development background with cross functional experience • Experience in being part of a mixed language and technology team • 5+ years total development experience (3+ years Java) • Worked on commerce related web sites or technology • Experience in using open source platforms • Competent with general technology, computer hardware and familiar with online server infrastructure Additional Skills • Large SKU size retail site experience (ideally in an international context) • User interface and usability expertise • Mobile exposure • Solid relational database skills • Knowledge of the following technologies/frameworks would be highly beneficial • E-Commerce platform exposure (ATG, Hybris, IBM WebSphere ecommerce, Fry etc) • Spring • Spring Web MVC • Hibernate or JPA • JSP/JSON/XHTML/JavaScript • J2ME a bonus  Correspondence will only be conducted with short listed candidates.
