Qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience:
• BSc (hons), MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering,
• Focus and interest in Mechatronics, Mechanical Design, Control Systems, Robotics,
• 7-10 years’ experience and competence in relevant fields,
• Must have experience in supervising junior staff members,
• A team player,
• Practical person with a good track record in development of systems or products,
• Good analytical approach,
• Good presentation skills,
• Good general computer literacy,
• Good Solid Works or CAD skills,
• Research and report writing skills,
• Skills and experience in project management,
• Ability to provide thought leadership and mentoring,
• High level conceptualisation and analytical skills,
• Problem solving, solution seeking orientation,
• Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills,
• A goal-oriented approach,
• Ability to work independently as well as in teams.

Key responsibilities:
• Mechanical lead designer on various projects that result in products,
• Drive product development process,
• Execute projects and deliver results on brief, on budget and on time,
• Raising personal, team and institutional profiles through publishing of originalresearch and presenting work at national and international conferences andworkshops,
• Interacting with peers within fields of expertise both within and outside the organisation,
• Interacting with clients (internal and external) and developing long term relationships,
• Effective communication and motivation in team context,
• Work in a multidisciplinary environment with clients, engineers, scientist, projectmanagers and technicians.
