* MSc degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Microbiology; 5 years’ experience in a molecular biology laboratory, preferably pharmaceutical environment; 3 years’ laboratory management experience; knowledge of current pharmacopoeial microbiology methods in the pharmaceutical industry and current molecular technique applications; ISO17025 and GLP; a sound understanding of aseptic technique; computer literacy in Microsoft Office, use of SAP document management systems and LIMS preferred. Must be willing to work outside of normal hours.*

Location: Durban, KwaZulu Natal

Description: A pharmaceutical manufacturing company is seeking a Senior Microbiologist to join their Quality Department (Microbiological Sciences). Key responsibilities will include: Day-to-day supervising and training of laboratory staff; conducting investigations, CAPA and root cause analysis; materials management; document management; validation of equipment and test methods; co-ordination of analytical tests and the release of results in a timely fashion; ensure that laboratory staff follow GMP while meeting stakeholder demands; ensure staff adhere to the Safety, Health and Environment regulations; ensure testing is performed in accordance to the pharmacopoeia and dossier; equipment management.

Key Requirements: MSc degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Microbiology; 5 years’ experience in a molecular biology laboratory, preferably in a pharmaceutical environment; 3 years’ laboratory management experience; knowledge of current pharmacopoeial microbiology methods in the pharmaceutical industry and knowledge on current molecular technique applications; a sound understanding of ISO17025 and Good Laboratory Practise; a sound understanding of aseptic technique; computer literacy in Microsoft Office with preference to the use of SAP document management systems and LIMS. The successful candidate must be willing to work outside of normal hours when necessary.
