Our client in the ICT Industry is seeking to employ a Senior Network Engineer (UC) to join their dynamic team.

Main Purpose of the job

This position is responsible for the design, planning, creation, development, maintenance and implementing of Unified Communications (UC) Networking solutions, services and architectures. This includes participation in the planning of all aspects of infrastructure necessary to ensure the secure provisioning of network/communications services to meet business and customer needs. The candidate will provide guidance in the production of network designs and design policies, strategies, architectures and documentation to support the requirements and strategy of an organisation’s business. This may incorporate all aspects of the communications infrastructure, multiple platform network integration, internal and external, mobile, public and private, Internet/Intranet and call centres. The candidate will provide guidance in the identification of new and emerging network/communications technologies and products and ICT methods and techniques and the on-going assessment of their relevance and potential value to the organisation which would include LAB testing and fit for purpose assessments. The candidate will set goals, monitor work, and evaluate results to ensure objectives and operating requirements are met and are in line with the needs and mission of the organization.

 Education and experience required:

  • Matric
  • CCIE certified and additional Cisco specialisations would be an advantage , specialisations could include:
  • CCIE Voice, CCVP, CCNP, CCDP, LAN and WAN, Borderless network architecture, Collaboration architecture specialisation, Data Centres architecture specialisation
  • Firm hands on experience on live networks
  • Exposure And Solid Knowledge of Product-Specific Technologies related to UC, VC, IPT, Routing and Switching, Wireless LAN, DC LAN, ONS technologies, Application acceleration.
  • Advanced ability to do 3rd level diagnostics and fault finding on all network technologies
  • Understand the strategic composition of a world class network ICT company
  • Understand customer current infrastructure and be able to relate the understanding into Network Engineering guidelines
  • Ability to provide firm leadership to a disparate team of network specialists in terms of daily operations, configuration guidelines and fault finding
  • Ability to present and articulate network related knowledge and topics to management and executive level audience

Key areas of responsibility

  • Provide Guidance to the Networking department in terms of the technical application of networking and UC skills
  • Demonstrate strong infrastructure and solution design and technical engineering experience and an understanding of networking and Cisco specialised technology.
  • Make recommendations for changes in the internal and client organisation’s use of the products and services supplied in order to increase the benefits the clients will ultimately obtain from TSSA, and help ensure client retention
  • Constantly utilises technical engineering experience and skills to assess and advise on the practicality of alternatives, combining technical limitations with operational realities
  • Conduct Research, advise and guide networking department in terms of new technologies, gearing to future proof network solutions
  • Guide the advanced high level problem management process as defined by the ITIL
  • Conceptualise Solutions and do detail low level engineering designs from high level solutions to enable network specialists to do the deployment for new solutions sold
  • Provide guidance to establish mechanism of monitoring, event generation, ticket logging and reporting of incidents together with monitoring specialists
  • Establish processes and procedures of the entire Networking department in conjunction with the team of network specialist
  • Interface with Pre-Sales to establish networking products, solutions and services that compete in a world class market.
  • Analyse draft solution proposals prior to submission to the customer to check for technical viability and fit for purpose solutions.
  • Where needs are recognised as falling outside one’s own area of knowledge, identify a suitable solution offering
  • Continuously ensure that technology is aligned to clients’ needs and clients are educated in terms of the technology used
