Main Objectives:

1. Execute the technical rigging aspects of a Live Event within his/her field of expertise for the Rigging division according to top production standards.
2. Carry out the preparation, installation, operation and dis-assembly of Rigging equipment and associated activities safely, according to the South African Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Gearhouse standard practice, under the supervision of the Senior Technician/Crew Boss or Project Manager.
3. Maintain a thorough understanding of Health and Safety Practices within the Live Event Industry.

Responsibilities:

Workshop Outgoing

• Check the Rigging equipment lists against technical information, ensuring that the list is comprehensive and accurate.
• Ensure that he/she is in possession of a Job Card for the relevant job.
• Familiarise him/herself with the Rigging equipment list, schedules and drawings.
• Ensure that he/she is in possession of all information necessary to successfully complete the assigned task.
• Prepare Rigging equipment for load-in, ensuring that the preparation areas are kept clean and safe in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
• Check that the equipment being prepared corresponds to the Rigging equipment list and that any extras have been authorised.

Workshop Returning

• Load and off-load trucks and return equipment to storage areas after the event.
• Report any damage to Rigging equipment or Gearhouse property to the Rigging Operations Manager immediately.

Onsite

• Attend a site reconnaissance if required.
• Make sure that he/she has a production schedule or an understanding of call times and event dates.
• Take instruction from the Senior Rigger/Project Manager or responsible person at the site.
• Perform duties efficiently and professionally and adhere to technical schedules.
• Conduct him/herself appropriately on-site, adhering to dress codes and safety standards.
• Setup/install Rigging equipment according to drawings, plans and/or instruction.
• Utilise Rigging equipment, including motors to lift, move, position and secure heavy loads, during set-up as well as for rehearsals and the actual event if required on standard shows.
• Perform routine diagnostics, preventative maintenance and repairs of Gearhouse Rigging equipment.
• Report damaged equipment to the Rigging Operations Manager, log any on-site repairs or arrange for the appropriate repairs on returning the equipment to the Workshop.
• Solve any on-site problems within the scope of his/her capabilities, bringing any other problems to the attention of the Senior Rigger/Project Manager onsite.
• Oversee any trainee technicians or Stagehands assigned to the job.
• After the event, dismantle equipment and load trucks, checking that no equipment is left behind on-site.
• Take care of personal tools and company equipment/property.
• Make sure that third party equipment/property sustains no damage.
• Complete and hand in a Job Report for each Job if he/she is designated senior person on the event.

Touring

• Keep his/her passport current and make him/herself available for any tour-related paperwork required.

Workshop

• Assist with cleaning and sorting of the general Workshop areas, if required

General

• Assist management with any other duties as may be required.

Requirements:

• Matric
• Valid Working at Heights certificate
• Valid medical fitness card
• Rigging qualification/technical course.
• Rigging experience within the entertainment industry will be an advantage
• A minimum of 3 years event, arena and temporary roof structure Rigging experience
