In reporting to the Project Manager, this is a strategic position where the successful incumbent will contribute to the substantial reduction of disaster risk and loss in lives, livelihoods and health through various government interventions. This will also cover the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, and businesses, communities within countries in the SADC region. Responsible to analyse and contribute to Disaster Risk Reduction for the SADC region with a focus on capacity enhancement interventions. The will encompass assisting with the development and implementation of the national Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)/DM strategies

Job Description

Required to focus on capacity enhancement interventions
Assist in the development and implementation of the national DRR/DM strategies
Develop interoperability and data and information flow in the SADC Region
Consult selected national, regional and international institutions and key sectoral actors and stakeholders in the SADC region, including relevant UN organizations.
Consult with Regional Civil Society and Private Sector Networks, Regional / International Local Government Networks, etc., to identify and acquire the necessary data and information for the assignment
Be guided by the various SADC, African Union and international policies, protocols, strategies, master plans, decisions and resolutions on Disaster Risk Management/Disaster Risk Reduction, Resilience and Humanitarian Assistance

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree in Disaster Risk Management, Development Sciences/ Studies, Economics, Sustainable Development, Environmental Sciences, International Relations / any related Social Science disciplines or related fields
At least 10 years of experience
PhD will be an added advantage
have a good understanding of the disaster risk management and humanitarian assistance agenda and challenges in the SADC region.
Proven and effective networking capabilities
Proficient and professional in public speaking
Sound knowledge of the regional institutions in Southern Africa.
Experience in government negotiations
Must have a valid passport and able to travel extensively within the SADC Region
