JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: Coordinate safety, health and environmental systems in the organisation. Identify hazards, assess risks to safety, health and environment, put appropriate safety controls in place and provide advice on accident prevention and occupational health to management and employees. Ensure total compliance with the Mines Health and Safety Act & Regulations. Assist the Safety Manager in co-ordinating, implementing and controlling the OHSAS 18001:2007 and the ISO 14001:2004 Safety Management Program on the projects.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):
• Lead the development and implementation of a safety system.
• Consult, manage and facilitate site safety targets and objectives.
• Promote, facilitate, implement, evaluate and review the Safety Management program within the organisation.
• Lead effective investigations of all SHE contraventions, oversee corrective actions and promote compliance.
• Lead and co-ordinate achievement, implementation and maintenance of SHE Systems & Certifications.
• Implement and maintain SHE programmes, policies and procedures.
• Investigate, evaluate and consult with relevant stakeholders re “Best Practices” on personal protective equipment for appropriateness
• Attend conferences, meetings and workshops to keep up-to-date with new safety methods and procedures applicable to Codes of Practice, regulations and best practices to maintain required level of certification.
• Coordinate, update and maintain SHE legal appointments.
• Conduct internal SHE audits and assess the effectiveness of the SHE system and programmes.
• Implement and facilitate a corrective action plan for non-conformance and non-compliances found in auditing processes
• Facilitate and co-ordinate the following:
? Accident / Incident Investigation Management
? Accident / Incident outcomes and corrective actions
? Rand Mutual Assurance documentation and claims
? Monitor DMR SAMRASS documentation
? Safety Representative election and Appointment procedure
? Health and Safety Committee operations and activities
? Safety representative reporting procedure
? Manage a medical surveillance program
? An induction program
? Evaluate, monitor and verify employee training qualifications prior to appointments as per training matrix
? Manage a risk assessment program
? Manage a behaviour base safety program
? Manage a planned task observation program
? Gather and compile weekly, monthly and quarterly detailed reports with required SHE information as per
? Mining standards and submit to site management and BU SHE manager
? Attend Organization Safety forum meetings (on invitation)
? Gather information, compile and conduct presentations on safety related requirements
? Site emergency situations
? A Safety culture survey program
? Mentor successors in the site safety department

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Mine Overseer certificate / General Engineering Supervisor
• Qualified Artisan / Qualified Miner / Environmental Officer
• National Diploma – Safety and Risk Management (Advantage)
• SHE Systems Auditor Certification (OHSAS / ISO )
• Practical Environmental Certification
• Practical Paramedic Certification (Advantage)
• COMSOC 1,2 & 3
• SAMTRAC (NOSA) (Advantage)

EXPERIENCE:
• 5 years experience in the same or similar role

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Computer literate – MS Office (Excel, Word and Power point)
• Certified in either: ICAM, RCAT or TAPROOT
• Valid Code 08 Drivers Licence
