MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible to manage the credit assessment function, make recommendations on the granting of credit for work out and restructuring corporate clients and mitigate any potential risk for Corporate Credit within the approved mandate of the company and acceptable risk appetite as determined by the company from time to time and in accordance to the approved Credit Policy.
Responsible to recommend and restructure total credit facilities for Corporate Credit, to prepare and make presentation of credit submission to Lending Committee’s (CRMC, CRC and full board) with clear recommendations for W&R applications.
Responsible to mitigate credit risk within allocated area of responsibility
Effectively liaise and communicate with the relevant stakeholders within the company to action performance gaps and variances in the credit evaluation process.
Effectively liaise and communicate Credit decisions in support of W&RU with the relevant stakeholders to action Turnaround strategies.
Actively provide input in the review and or improvement of the Credit Policy and Procedures, make recommendations and compile the Credit Policy, working in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders as appropriate in order to enhance and ensure that the legal and business requirements are met.
To manage, control and authorise tasks performed by subordinates ( output of the Specialist/Analysts and Credit Administrators) control expenses against allocated budget items and produce stats and report on credit risk to be reported monthly on (CROM) within area of responsibility.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Credit Assessment and Credit Risk Management
Conduct and ensure quality credit assessment of the restructuring applications in order to conform to the set standards, highlight anomalies and Ensure that all relevant information and
documentation has been received from the relevant
stakeholders.
Conduct and ensure analytical assessment of restructuring applications by all the relevant stakeholders including Specialists/Analyst
Assess business and financial risk by analysing financial projection statements of restructured proposal
Research and assess the industry in which the business is associated and assess the potential risk of implementing restructured turnaround plan.
Interpret analysis done by the relevant stake holders including Specialists/Analyst taking into consideration industry information as provided by Economic Research Business Intelligence and external information sources
Coordinate Credit Committee Meetings (CRMC and CRC).
Make recommendations for decisions on Corporate credit turnaround and restructuring applications
Prepare Credit turnaround submission and make decision to recommend application to approval Committees (CRMC and CRC, comprising of the Executive managers, CEO and members of the Board) on credit applications greater than R (***)-***-**** (hundred Million Rand)
Make decisions on restructuring and loans within specified time frame as per SLA and provide substantiation of decisions
Review turnaround applications and loans taking into consideration past operational/financial performance of applicants and restructuring projections
Restructuring of existing Credit application taking into consideration past operations and financial performance of applicants for restructuring.
Provide technical support to the Credit Specialists/Analyst & the relevant stakeholders with respect to loan applications and restructuring proposals
Present bankable solutions to applications submitted for credit assessment by structuring credit facilities in an acceptable manner ensuring that correct types of loans are considered and secured adequately.
Consider restructuring of existing loans if requested or if there is non- performance, taking into consideration refinancing such as reduction of rates, extension of loans to ensure successful performance
Ensure that the relevant management information is captured on SAP so as to produce the correct monthly report
Ensure adherence to the banks Credit Policy and that all legal requirements are met in terms of the National Credit Act and other laws guiding credit principles
Management of Risk Grading: Credit Models
Ensure that all credit applications are scored as per the credit and impairment models
Manage the Risk Register within area of responsibility
and ensure that operational risk is embedded in the
day to day activities
Ensure identification, evaluation and prioritisation of risks
Ensure that risk controls are in place and control shortcoming
Ensure that the action plan: action to be taken, person responsible and due date are in place
Ensure that Risk related matters is escalated to Manco
Ensure that all risks are updated on CURA system Credit Policies and Procedures
Review and enhance the relevant credit policies and procedures and update as and when necessary
Provide inputs on lending norms and credit criteria to be applied on new products
Ensure that regions are informed of changes to policies and/or of new policies and procedures that have been adopted
Stakeholder Management
Provide training and guidance to the relevant stakeholders on credit related matters
Manage and respond to all allocated queries
Responsible to build and maintain relationships with all internal and external stakeholders as appropriate
Responsible to manage and provide technical support to regions in respect restructuring and turnaround principals
Responsible to promote a culture of credit risk management with all the relevant stakeholders by optimizing and streamlining Corporate credit approval work processes to promote efficient turnaround times.
Visit regions regularly to provide guidance, advice and feedback in terms of restructuring objectives
Audit Query and General Administration
Attend to audit findings
Initiate corrective action based on audit findings
Manage the records and safe keeping of all Credit committee meetings attended, minutes, agendas, decision forms, registers and declarations
Manage Human Resources
Leads and mentors the team, providing direction, development and motivation to ensure that credit assessment within area of responsibility runs effectively and efficiently and business objectives are met
Plans and assesses the human resource requirements in accordance with the expected deliverables and recommends allocation of resources to meet departmental goals
Provides opportunities for development and promotes sound working relationships
Review the Performance Management documentation in collaboration with the staff member in terms of:
o Job Profile requirements
o Strategic Performance Objectives
o Key Performance Areas
o Personal Development Plan
o Actively participates in the recruitment
process, including the writing of job specifications, the job interview process and on appointment performs the induction and handling of any HR related processes and documentation as Line Manager from inception of the employee until termination
Conducts performance reviews in accordance with policies and procedures and takes corrective actions where necessary and in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements
Conducts staff operational meetings as and when required to discuss operational deliverables, performance and business issues
Lives the company's demonstrates behaviour that is consistent with the company values and embeds the culture of the company.
Represents the credit department as a resource on credit related projects or any other business requirements as and when required
Performs agreed projects as allocated to support
management with the enhancement of business processes and systems
Ensures that the activities are performed in accordance to the project deliverables, standards and
time lines
Ensures that ad-hoc requests are performed effectively and efficiently
Demonstrates behaviour aligned to the company's values
Manage Expenses against Approved Budget
Provide input into the departmental annual budget and allocated cost items
Monitor expenditure monthly and report on variances
Manage budget allocations and motivations for expense within area of responsibility
Prepares and manages the operational budget and
manages expenses within area of responsibility; ensures the maintenance or reduction of costs of all resources without compromising on the delivery of the departmental objectives

PREFERRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A relevant 3 year qualification; or
Minimum Certified Associate of the Institute of Bankers
(CAIB (SA))
Business Degree would be advantageous
Agriculture degree in Finance or Economics
Certified in insolvencies would be advantageous
5 years credit management experience in corporate
business
Thorough knowledge of primary, secondary agriculture
sector finance
Appraisal of credit proposals and deal structuring for
assets finance, working capital, backward and forward integration finance and acquisitions.
