Transport Planning Manager

To strategically plan and improve the effectiveness and collaboration of the group-wide transport operation. The incumbent will be required to set up a transport control management system (processes, people and systems) and ensure business goals are met (cost effectiveness and availability).

This is a senior transport management appointment that will require not only proven capabilities in the establishment of a “transport control tower” but also require considerable managerial skill and an innate knowledge of transport operations.

The initial focus will be on primary and secondary transport but the intent is to expand the transport management function to include all facets of the business (i.e. tertiary)

Key performance areas:

Establishment of the transport control tower (i.e. staffing and systems inclusive of master data set ups and data interfaces to other IT platforms)
Obtain interdivisional buy-in for the integration and collaboration of transport execution
Through the effective utilization of the transport management software, provide guidance in the optimization of transport within the organization (continuous improvement initiatives identified and implemented)
Optimising current transport agreements and processes
Assess and implement transport synergies across divisions in order to create savings and enhance transport efficiencies
Establish processes to benchmark and manage transporter contracts and rates
Influence product channel participation selection strategies by providing cost effective transport solutions
Establish effective transport KPI reporting (inclusive of operational, environmental and efficiencies indices)
Participate in the development of supply chain strategy
Manage the transport planning team

Requirements

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics / Transport / Supply Chain Management
Proven experience in the establishment and management of a transport control tower
Transport (IT) management systems
Extensive transport industry knowledge
5 – 7 years’ experience in a senior management position
Retail or FMCG experience
