Our client in the media space is looking for a Senior Content Manager to lead and implement a revised content strategy and objectives that will drive and achieve targeted subscriber numbers whilst at the same time secure key content across the range of channels.
Description
In order to be considered the following is required:
B-degree in Communication/Media/Journalism Degree
Honours degree in Communication/Media/Journalism
5 – 10 years’ experience in the Industry. At least 3 years’ experience in the production sector and 5 years’ experience in various aspects of broadcasting including programming (commissioning and licensing), scheduling and marketing. 2 – 3 years Supervisory/ managerial experience in broadcasting
Experience in a regulatory environment
Marketing and Brand methodology, media platforms, advertising processes
ICASA, BCCSA and ASA rules and regulations
Broadcasting or related qualification and experience
Project management
P&L management
Entertainment Law
People management
Understanding of the Broadcast Value chain (Acquisition to broadcast)
Scheduling practice and techniques
Knowledge of the amortisation (optimum utilisation of the inventory)
Knowledge of the Regulatory and Legislatory environment pertaining to broadcast and other visual media
Knowledge of the basics of marketing in the broadcast environment from consumer to on-air
Knowledge of the television production process (i.e. Jargon, workflow, media value chain)
Knowledge of viewer ratings
Financial principles and processes
Knowledge of broadcast asset / inventory management
Marketing principles and processes (sponsorship/ advertising)
Knowledge and understanding of a multi-channel business environment
Knowledge of converged (new) media and impact on local landscape
Knowledge of the Production Value chain (Commissioning)
Content programming knowledge
Knowledge of Airtime Sales and Sponsorships within the procurement of local content
Understanding of the international content industry knowledge
The responsibilities of the role will include:
Develop and implement a content strategy for the satellite platform that will drive subscriber numbers.
Financial control and budgets
Negotiate with content suppliers (channel and programme) to secure agreements on the best possible terms for the business
Secure parcel of rights that can be moulded into a competitive product
Determine the packaging of the various content elements into bouquets that will exploit market opportunities and maximise the company’s ARPU
Maintain links with key suppliers to learn of new content opportunities and to negotiate terms
Evaluate and assess new content proposals
Interact with the Regulation (ICASA) in terms of securing approval for additional channels as well as responding to queries from this body including the BCCCSA which handles complaints from the public
Oversee performance of channels to ensure these channels are regarded amongst the best within their genre classifications
Responsible for the professional look and feel of the locally complied channels
Assess subscriber satisfaction from focused research and other credible source of feedback and identify relevant changes that will increase satisfaction
Keep Management and other departments informed of significant changes or recommendation regarding content
