1. Personal Qualifications and Experience
The minimum qualification requirement for the post of workshop foreman in the repair & service workshop would be:
• Grade 12 (Technical) as well as a Technical tertiary education, at least NTC5 in one of the following fields:
Electro-mechanical
Mechanical
Electrical
• Completed an indentured apprenticeship in electro-mechanical, mechanical, electrical or electronic equipment service and repair and be a certified technician in this field backed up by at least 5 years working experience in this field.
• Have completed a safety diploma eg. SAMTRAC.
• Have at least 3 years supervisory experience
2. Skills Level
Essential personal skills required:
• Strong leadership skills
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills
• Excellent motivational skills.
• Able to make critical decisions under pressure.
• Able to manage time and work toward targets and deadlines
• Sound communication skills and well versed in the English Language (Speak fluently, read and write)
3. Competencies
a. Essential:
A thorough understanding of and experience with service and repair techniques and procedures with various categories of machine tools.
Computer skills with a good knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
b. Desirable:
Experience in training and training techniques.
Supervisory management diploma.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage and lead the workshop team
• Manage operational activities i.e.
Flow of work (Systems and Procedures)
Turn-Around time targets
• Manage workshop standards
• Formulate workshop status and product technical reports
Main Activities:
• Staff time and attendance
• Monitor and maintain optimal flow-of-work in workshop.
• Monitor and assist in evaluation and reporting of warranty repair claims
• Liaise with product managers regarding warranty repairs
• Establish and maintain good communications and relations with authorized repair agents and customers
• Assist and liaise with product managers and buying department regarding availability and re-ordering of spares required for service and repair.
• Monitor and maintain safety regulations and standards in the workshop
• Monitor and maintain work and production standards
• Monitor and maintain good housekeeping.
• Monitor staff performance and conduct. (appraisal & disciplinary)
• Liaise with training manager and manage skills development of staff
• Report workshop service level status to senior management
• Maintain KPI, SLA and SOP
General:
• Must be willing to occasionally work extended hours and on weekends
• Fulfill other duties as and when required by senior management
