Job Title: Shaft Foreman

Job Description:

Co-ordinate the Shaft maintenance activities of the mine to ensure effective maintenance according to organizational requirements.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Analyse breakdowns of previous shift at the beginning of each shift by evaluating previous corrective measures and allocate resources accordingly
Communicate equipment information and changes to relevant stakeholder to minimize production delays
Conduct Shaft Examinations
Continuously analyse equipment efficiencies to recommend or implementing improvements and changes to maximise equipment utilization
Control the magazines, including handling, controlling, receiving and issuing explosives
Co-ordinate and monitor equipment availability to ensure adherence to production parameters
Ensure the availability of approved mining layouts and production plans
Over-inspect subordinates in their daily activities to ensure maintenance according to organizational standards and the maintenance requirements
Perform lock-outs and risk assessments
Responsible for maintaining water tunnels, declines and change houses
Perform administrative duties to ensure record accuracy and availability, budget compliance and spares availability
Required to work according to the Mine’s Code of Practice, and report any observations of this not being done
Required to work overtime, do standby and be available for call-outs should the need arise

Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12
Permanent Blasting Certificate
National Certificate: Generic Management Level 3
Valid drivers’ license (EB)
5 years’ experience as a Miner in a Shaft environment
Previous Shaft Foreman experience – an advantage
Completion of a Supervisory Development Programme – an advantage
Computer literate MS Office Suite

Other Skills/Competencies:

Good verbal and written communication skills in English
Sound planning (time management), leading and organizational abilities
Able to work at heights

Preference will be given to suitable candidates from the designated groups in line with the Company’s Employment Equity Policy and Plan and internal candidates. Pre -screening, profile testing, on mine assessments, medical and security clearance form part of the recruitment and selection process.
