Our client in the Mining Equipment sector (Vibrating Screens etc.) has an Exciting new vacancy for a Quality, Health and Safety Manager, East Rand

The Position Reports to: COO

Objective:

To promote and ensure top quality by assuring compliance to an effective quality management system and the continuous improvement of processes through the facilitation of problem solving and the process of change.
Align stakeholders to policy and legislation to protect the organisation’s reputation and integrity.
To co-ordinate all activities that are required to direct and control the company with regards to safety, health, environmental and quality that will improve quality, delivery schedule and price of products or service, improving the systems and processes and deliver all the resources that support these processes.

Key responsibilities includes but is not limited to:

Supports Top management in the SHEQ policy and guidelines.
Compiles and maintains the organization roles, responsibilities and process flows.
Ensures, in accordance with the Company’s guidelines, directives and the relevant Legislation, the compilation, implementation, updating and auditing of the Companies SHEQ system.
Responsible for all the compliance reviews, risk assessments and other SHEQ assessments.
Determines the strategic direction and work priorities (in conjunction with all management) for the continuous improvement of the SHEQ management programme, systems and reporting.
Assist all departments in their dealing with Supplier and Clients in all issues concerned with the Company’s SHEQ requirement.
Carries out relevant audits of suppliers and sub-contractors.
Responsible for the SHEQ related input into sales projects and modification programmes.
Responsible for the compilation of SHEQ documentation for all tenders.
Drive quality improvement initiatives.
Ensure that all company products meet or exceed customer requirements and expectations.
Supervise technical and quality staff in carrying out quality checks and tests.
Compile and manage all internal and external QC plans and data packs
Support sales and service departments with QC plans and any other related requirements
Ensure that test procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated and that product modifications are investigated if necessary.
Supervise continual improvements to processes, product or services.
Work closely with purchasing departments to establish supplier quality performance criteria and monitor and improve supplier performance.
Liaise with managers of design, purchasing and production departments regarding quality.
Investigate customer complaints, manage all root cause failure analysis and prepare preventative action plans
Optimize and manage the NCR system
Full responsibility for the Company preparations for the SHEQ audits and Quality Audits e.g. ISO 9000 etc.
Develop and control the Quality budget

H&S:

Ensure the Company applies with all relates H&S legislation
Developing, maintaining and implementing H&S policies and procedures
Develop and control the H&S budget
Overall management of the Occupational Health and Safety System at the company and in the regions.
Responsible for setting up health and safety controls and documentation
Responsible for the application of environmental and health and safety standards.
Identify and implement relevant health and safety awareness and training
Act as the liaison with regulatory authorities and ensuring changes are implemented into the business as required.
Takes part in every accident/incident investigation.
Carries out analysis of accident/incident statistics, root cause analysis, identifying trends and suggesting improvement plans.

Other:

Walk the manufacturing floor on a regular basis to establish SHEQ presence and provide support.
Liaison with the all departments for initiating and co-ordinating and implementing relevant training programmes.
Provide for motivation and familiarization of all personnel respecting the importance of complying with the Company SHEQ system procedures and all equipment.
Apply best practice and continuous improvement practices
Manage the day to day departmental activities and of the personnel under your immediate control.
Build and lead an effective and motivated value adding SHEQ team
Perform other tasks as required when assigned
Mobility- Moderate travelling required

Candidate Requirements
Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Quality Management and Mechanical Engineering
ISO or similar quality certification
Relevant Health and Safety training
Management Development Program, Boiler making and/or NDT/MPI training is an advantage

Experience

Substantial experience within a metal component (heavy) manufacturing environment
Excellent understanding of how parts are made
Substantial practical knowledge and understanding of assembly processes.
Excellent understanding of engineering machinery, vibrating equipment/gearboxes
Experience in implementation of ISO, customer complaint management, NCR, and related quality systems
Excellent understanding of Health & Safety regulations and management thereof
Minimum of ten years’ experience in a similar management position.
