Our client in the IT industry is looking to engage the services of a Shipping Controller to facilitate the export process of cross trade into Africa.
Educational Requirements:
• Matric
• Export qualification (Advantage)
Number of Years’ Experience Required:
• 3 year experience in exports and logistics
Soft Skills Requirements and level of competency:
• Advanced Excel and MS Office skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience working with Sap
Inherent Competencies required in this position:
• Must be willing to learn and apply new knowledge.

• Ability to reason and apply logic.

Detailed duties and responsibilities.
• Copy over new shipments from billing report
• Follow up on export documents from suppliers as agreed.
• Check if requirements on SI / LC are met.
• Check important details on the BL and compare to PFI (POL, POD, No. of containers)
• Create commercial invoice and packing list on Sap.
• Check important detail on the BL and compare to CI + PL (Qty, weight, CBM)
• Cross check all documents to ensure consistency (BL, C.O.O, COC, CI and PL)
• Send draft copies for approval to consignee and / or regional office.
• Confirm / amend documents with factory.
• Follow up daily on the status of documents to achieve agreed KPI.
• Work closely with billing team and monitor invoice billing status.
• Check and compare if Sap billing amount matches the CI amount.
• Scan and send pre alert of final documents to enable the consignee to start pre clearance process.
• Courier original documents timeously with DHL and provide the tracking number to consignee.
• Track and Monitor the vessel arrival status.
• Track and Monitor container gate out status.
• Update each shipment and save excel status report daily.
• Must report any issues to line manager
• Archive of export documents.
• Print online Bills of Lading in-house.
• Generate and summarize weekly consolidation of all status reports.
• Perform audit on hard and soft copy shipment documents and status report.
• Must be able to perform any other reasonable ad-hoc duties as required by management.
• Must have a clear understanding of export documents i.e. commercial invoice & packing list, bills of lading, shipping instructions etc.
• Must have understanding of common Incoterms.
• Must have basic understanding of LC’s.
