Social Policy Officer
Currently the following vacancy exists at our clients Parliamentary Office based in Cape Town:

SOCIAL POLICY OFFICER

(Commencement of Service: 1 November 2014 or as soon as possible)

The successful candidate will report directly to the Deputy General Secretary: Operations.

Responsibilities:

1. Coordinating the functions of the federation on matters of Gender; Hiv/Aids; social justice and human rights; youth and child labour

2. Provision of administrative coordination to the constitutional structures of the federation

3. Managing a departmental budget for training and workshops

4. Procuring donor funding for social policy projects

5. Being involved in collective planning with all Departments within our client

6. Coordinating the work of the Social Justice Committee (SJC) as a Constitutional Structure meeting quarterly (including sending out notices, drafting agendas and typing minutes)

7. Promoting the brand of our client through submissions and publications with stakeholders on matters of social policy

8. Actively lobbying the federation’s position on matter of social policy

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

1. A minimum of Grade 12 (Matric) with an above C average for English

2. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat Pro would be advantage)

3. Experience in managing a budget

4. Experience with drafting position papers and document layout

5. Ability to work under pressure

6. Proficiency with Mail chimp and electronic media

7. Attention to detail

8. Driver’s licence is a pre-requisite

9. Minimum of two years’ experience in NGO environment as project officer

Added Recommendations:

1. Experience in Gender development, Hiv/Aids, social justice lobbying and project management

2. Spoken and written proficiency in Afrikaans and or another official language

3. A qualification in gender studies and / or political science and / or business administration with human rights and/or gender studies as subject

4. Prepared to travel extensively on a weekly basis
