Shifa Private Hospital is looking to employ for a Social Worker to work permanent.

Minimum Duties and Responsibilities include:
Provision of counseling. Counselling to help children heal from the trauma, abuse and bereavement they have experienced. Therapy for family members who have also suffered and mediation between family members and between carers and children to ensure strong health families.
Child Protection. Dealing with cases of abuse and neglect. Developing partnerships with Durban Child Welfare and the Department of Social Development and working with them to protect children.
Staff debriefing . Providing support to field workers as they deal with difficult cases and debriefing them to prevent burn out.
Birth certificates . Leading the process of finding documentation and family members in order to access birth certificates .
Court work . When necessary navigating child protection/guardianship issues that have to be referred to the children’s court or other agencies.
Policies and training . Keeping child protection and other policies up to date. Training staff and volunteers in child protection and other matters.

Minimum Skills & Experience
Qualified Social Worker
Minimum 3 years experience working with children who have been abused/neglected, providing support, counselling to children and families
Experience working for or with either the Department of Social Development or Durban Child Welfare
Experience with managing and supporting others.
Proficient in English and at least one other South African Language spoken by children in Durban.
