Introduction
The standby scheduler role exist to ensure that there is scheduling cover for secondary deliveries scheduling and optimization for the periods outside normal office hours, taking into consideration safety, customer service and transport economics.
Description
a. Educational background
Tertiary: Appropriate Diploma or degree in Logistics Management, Transport Economics or Supply Chain Management is advantageous.
b. Experience (years and nature)
2 years operational experience in demand and supply planning, logistics planning, depot operations or transport operations will be advantageous.
Experience in supply planning or scheduling tools and competence in Microsoft Excel will be advantageous.
c. Other
English language essential.
Key Results/ Accountabilities Expected From Role
In addition, the standby scheduler is held accountable for the following key results:
- Entails computerised scheduling (development of a bulk delivery plan) of bulk fuel orders for delivery by road to BP and other oil company customers as well as BP agents/resellers, taking into consideration safety (no incidents) and economics - minimizing time and km required - while meeting/exceeding customer offer in terms of time of delivery.
- Develop their scheduling knowledge to be able to schedule all the depots. Link up with other schedulers to ensure that knowledge of different depots and customers is used in scheduling.
- Review delivery plans for day and night shifts while accommodating carried loads (from previous shift) and looking for opportunities to schedule unplanned resources as a result of cancellations, while ensuring correct timing of bulk deliveries (just in time), with correct grades and quantities preventing product returns.
- Select the correct type of bulk vehicle combination for specific customer sites, thereby avoiding costly delays and incidents on site.
- Develop and implement manual scheduling system in the event of computer failure so that all product deliveries can be accounted for.
- Manage various delivery crises (such as product shortage, vehicle breakdowns, BVO strikes, etc) so that customers are kept wet as far as possible without compromising HSSE.
- Track scheduling performance by comparing actual (key performance indicator) KPI to target KPI or best in industry KPI.
- Must be fully conversant with the following computer applications, currently: WINDMS, ROSI, ISP, C-Track, Mix-Telematics, OVC, FuelFacs and EDI.
