Our client is the market leader in slurry handling equipment. They currently have a vacancy for a Strategic Sourcing Specialist to be responsible for the development of purchasing/procurement strategy in line with the broader Supply Chain strategic objectives and to manage the commercial value add of discipline projects and programs.
The ideal candidate will have a tertiary education, Masters / Honours (Economics/Logistics) and 5-8 years’ related experience in a similar function. Commercial Law and Contract Management advantageous. ERP system experience.

Position details:

Job description / core competencies:
Conduct regular contact/meetings with key suppliers and feedback on issues/problems at suppliers.
Develop purchasing/procurement strategy in line with the broader Supply Chain strategic objectives.
Ensure effective governance.
Manage the commercial value add of discipline projects and programs.
Effectively manage internal and external stakeholder relationships.
Provide effective leadership and management of the Strategic Sourcing team and enable it to deliver to expectation.
Drive transformation and grow preferential procurement.
Drive cost reduction & cost containment.
Responsible for supplier master file, purchasing procedures and audit requirements.
Negotiate and maintain contracts for all suppliers.
Ensure that agreements effectively mitigate risk exposure to company.
Negotiate strategic sourcing agreements and any changes in vendor contracts in accordance with Company's PLC and South African rules and regulations.
Drive a fair and transparent tendering process.
Negotiate with vendors/contractors to obtain maximum benefit to Company from contracts.
Decide if recurring purchases are appropriate for strategic sourcing agreement/initiatives.
Decide if proposed contract changes and modifications are reasonable and in the best interest of the company.
Apply negotiation skills to resolve vendor disputes with an acceptable outcome for both parties.
Decide appropriate resolutions to problems that may arise during the strategic sourcing contracting process by mediating disputes between the company and the vendor/contractor.
Develop and maintain awareness of changing commodity-related business trends in the marketplace and the possible impact to the company.
Develop and compose bid specifications in such a manner that the company needs are addressed.
Defend and/or justify an award of a formal bid or proposal in the event of formal protest filed by a vendor/contractor with support of Procurement Manager.
Analyze bid responses to determine the most responsive and responsible bidder to optimize total cost of ownership.
Analyze spend data/trends to identify and develop overall strategic sourcing initiatives which meet the needs of the company and recommends agreement formation to the Procurement Manager based on research of total spend, end-user impact, feedback and activity along with marketplace analysis.
Recommend and justify strategic sourcing initiatives and e-procurement supplier enablement initiatives by using data mining tools to conduct spend analysis, prepare supporting reports/spreadsheets, comparisons.
Assist in the development of internal policies and tools necessary to implement strategic sourcing initiatives and assists in prioritizing strategic sourcing initiatives.
Work collaboratively with the broader supply chain in the development of formation of strategic sourcing agreements.
Assist in monitoring and tracking vendor performance through periodic financial reviews, product performance, customer satisfaction surveys and customer outreach.
Ensure adherence of all HSE and housekeeping requirements.
Adhere to Duty of Care Policy at all times.

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Qualifications:
BCom (Economics/Logistics).
Masters / Honours (preferably).

Experience:
5-8 years’ related experience in a similar function.
Commercial Law and Contract Management advantageous.
ERP system experience.
Computer literacy (MS Office Suite) - excellent working knowledge of Excel.

Skills/Abilities:
Must be innovative and detail-oriented.
Self-starter and must be able to work without supervision.
Strong analytical skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships at various levels and to resolve complaints timeously.
Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously and meet firm deadlines.
