Your key job responsibilities as the Structural Resident Engineer in Malawi:

-Resident Engineer’s functions as per FIDIC based contracts
-Good knowledge of reinforced concrete construction
-Move to and reside in Malawi for the contract duration (approx. 2 years)
-Study all the plans and ensure understanding of each, identify all errors on the plans and refer them back to the design office for rectification
-Supervise the construction of all the structures, ensure compliance to plans and specifications and ensure timeous information for the contractor to work optimally
-Maintain accurate field notes and the flow of technical information to the contractor and the design office
•Monitor the construction schedule and prepare progress reports
-Evaluate improvement operations, provide contractor with approved recommendations for all repair work and ensure compliance with all time frames
-Resolve client and design engineer’s questions within required time frame and provide assistance to the contractor
-Work as a team with the other RE’s and execute any ad-hoc site or site-office duties that may be agreed
-Engage in activities that contribute to personal CPD (continuous professional development) and maintain professional registration

Requirements for this Structural Resident Engineer job in Malawi:

-BEng (civ) or B Tech (structural engineering), Professionally registered with ECSA registered as PrEng or PrTech
-Min 10 years’ experience after graduation and min 5 years’ experience in the supervision of water retaining and civil structures
-Legal knowledge: Design standards
-Software: MS Office,MS Project
-Travel: To be based full time on site
-Driver’s license is essential
-Good working knowledge of structural design principles in the fields of concrete (including water retaining structures), structural steel, piling, brickwork construction and geotechnical aspects
-Understanding the importance and use of document control and an ISO system in a site environment
-Good problem-solving skills and must be able to build good relationships with all the affected parties
