JULY TO OCTOBER CONTRACT

The Supportive Parenting Programme aims to support families to make healthy choices within the First 1000 Days of life, from conception through the 9 months of pregnancy until a child is 2 years old. The Supportive Parenting Programme will do this by equipping community and facility based workers to provide health promotion and education support material to parents.

The supervisor will directly oversee community and facility based workers in Gugulethu / Nyanga that are performing the following duties:
• Initiate contact with parents in a manner that provides general support and encouragement;
• Share and discuss the educational material provided;
• Respond to discussion points that emerge, whilst being mindful to provide referrals to health professionals as appropriate;
• Be knowledgeable about resources appropriate to the needs of parents and families;
• Conduct short subject matter related interviews to assist in growing understanding of the parent’s context;
• Record information that will assist in tracking progress; and
• Exhibit excellent working relations with parents and staff at health facilities.

The initial duration of the programme will be 4 months and this will thereafter be extended based on the progress made. The start date for the supervisor will be 1 July 2017. Training will be scheduled in the week prior to the start date. 1 (one) candidate is required at supervisor level.
Minimum qualifications:
• Supervisor and administrative experience;
• Experience in planning, monitoring, conducting staff training, implementing systems, and enforcing policies / procedures;
• Experience in co-ordinating and managing staff;
• Experience in collating information and preparing weekly / monthly progress reports;
• Computer and smartphone literate;
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel;
• Own transport to travel to different sites preferred;
• Fluency in English (written and spoken) and isiXhosa (spoken);
• Experience working in a community-based setting for at least 2 years;
• Understanding and local connection to the community served;
• Experience in maternal and child health care;
• Ability to engage people in one-on-one and group settings;
• Good communication skills, such as listening well, presenting educational material and motivational interviewing;
• Recent experience in learning and implementing complex tasks; and
• Demonstrable experience in working without constant supervision.

Remuneration:
• The monthly payment for this position is R9,000. This excludes reimbursable travel and expenses.
