A large automotive manufacturing company based in the Eastern Cape is seeking to employ 2x Supply Quality Engineers to support a temporary increase in workload arising from the planning to introduce the next generation model of the commercial vehicle whilst continuing to maintain the existing workflow from current model production.

The ideal candidate will preferably have a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering and a Degree in Quality Management will be advantageous. Requirements include: Extensive knowledge of Quality Management Systems such as IATF16949, ISO9001, VDA6.3. Thorough understanding of Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA). Knowledge in automotive supplier manufacturing processes and controls. Thorough understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) including detailed knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for automotive components and systems. Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Position details:

Type: Contract

Travel: Need to be able to travel as required for supplier visits to conduct regular process audits, product problem investigations and support component development project milestones. Valid code 08 driver’s license required (new code E or higher).

Job description / core competencies:
• Support localisation strategies with development of new materials, components and/or systems using the Advanced Product Quality Plan process (APQP) through to new part approval (PPAP) by means of the client's Supplier Quality Manual (IZ1927) Advance tasks.
• Supplier Quality requirements for all new business sourcing decisions affecting local suppliers, ensuring the client's objectives are met (quality, technology and price).
• Participation within Component Sourcing Teams to support component localization and new component development objectives.
• Monitor supplier quality performance metrics and implement performance correction strategies to drive continuous improvement in the supply-base by means of the client's Supplier Quality Manual (IZ1927) Current tasks.
• Ensure that Corrective and Preventive Action Reports lodged with suppliers are effectively addressed to prevent reoccurrence.
• Root cause investigate and drive rapid product issue resolution at supplier base.
• Implement product and/or process changes at suppliers, and ensure they are effectively managed / executed without disruption to supply while meeting client's quality and engineering standards.
• Conduct regular process & quality system audits on supplier base to ensure supplier manufacturing controls consistently meet client's customer quality requirements

Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics (require 1x electrical and 1x mechanical).
• Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics (where applicable) preferred, degree in Quality Management preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of Quality Management Systems such as IATF16949, ISO9001, VDA6.3

• Good technical knowledge in respective automotive mechanical and electrical commodities, systems and components
• Highly analytical, able to conduct root cause analysis and apply problem solving techniques
• Good Problem-Solving skills (8D, 5-Why’s, Ishakawa, Red-X,
• Extensive knowledge on manufacturing techniques and processes used in manufacturing electrical components and systems
• Excellent project management skills
• Broad understanding of Quality Management System requirements
• Working knowledge in reading and interpreting Engineering drawings
• Computer skills (MS Office suite of apps such as Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.)
• Ability to conduct supplier audits on Quality Management Systems and Manufacturing Process Control Plans
