Package:
  • Salary up to R18k per month dependent on experience

What Does a Support Services Engineer Do?
Working within our Managed Services team you will assume the function of an IT system administrator for a wide range of clients who have outsourced their IT support to IT Lab. This involves the monitoring and management of client backups, routers and firewalls, servers and device endpoints to ensure issues are handled proactively with minimal impact on the client. Resolving issues efficiently, identifying and correcting trends is a key part of the role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivery of quality proactive managed services across the IT Lab client base
           o Backup Management
           o Firewall Management
           o Threat Management
           o Server Updates
           o Patch Management
  • Effective escalation of critical issues needing high level attention
  • Management of risk and downtime during maintenance windows
  • To act as the client IT Administrator for numerous clients
  • Responding to, handling alerts, incidents and escalated problems on the variety of platforms and supported networks from logon to the resolution
  • Performing administrative tasks user and server related 
  • Involvement and presence in core Virtual Teams 
  • IT Administrative tasks following the client on boarding  or change to the services provided
 
So, Am I Right for the Job?
As this is a varied, challenging and highly responsive role, the ideal candidate will already have 3+ years’ experience in providing highly responsive IT managed services or IT system administration.
 
Ideally you will have/be:
  • Good technical ability in core network technologies
  • Good technical understanding of windows server technology
  • Knowledge of one of more of the following backup products:
       o Veritas / Symantec Backup Exec
       o Dell AppAssure
       o Microsoft DPM (Data Protection Manager)
       o Ahsay
       o Backup Assist
       o Veeam
  • Able to prioritise under high pressure and work to deadlines
  • Flexible, calm and approachable, ‘can do’ attitude
  • Communication excellence (verbal and written)
  • Sound decision making & judgement
  • Good planning, organisation and risk assessment
  • Good understanding of ITIL framework and processes
  • Understanding and demonstrating minimum standards at all times
