Sustainability Engineer - Johannesburg
Salary – R1.1 + Negotiable
Key Purpose Statement
The primary role of the Sustainability Engineer is to provide systemic and technical leadership for Engineering and Utilities within the company and ensures compliance to group SD requirements and standards, also ensuring Legal compliance. Develops and maintains Engineering Standards for Utilities and Services.
Duties:
• Aligns strategic direction to business needs and the manufacturing way
• Delivers against these strategies by working with regions and plants
• Develops required systems and processes to support SD implementation and provides SD operational support at a plant level
• Performs deep technical analysis to improve water and energy performance
• Develops and implements KPI’s and reporting systems and analyses the KPI’s to provide business insight
• Provide SD input into the design of large capital projects and ensures that SD operational readiness requirements are met
• Leads the Community of Practice in sustainable development
• Ensures Engineering Legal Compliance at Plant and in other Operations (CDE, Fleet)
• Leads the development of Business Continuity Plans in respect of Water and Electricity
• Provides utility operational support at a plant level for performance to the required standards
• Ensures that utility equipment and processes are performing
• Develops utility skills in the plants and regions
• Leads the definition and integration of new efficient technology, including alternative energy sources
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering and GCC, worked as GMR 2(1) Appointee
• Advanced certification into Hazardous Installations, Systems under pressure, and Refrigeration.
• At least 10 years working experience of which at least 4 years covered utilities operations and management
• Deep understanding of Utilities Technology and drivers of efficiency and integrity
• Is an experienced practitioner of the manufacturing way/lean manufacturing/TPM/WCM
• Implementation of Asset Management and OEM Partnering in Utilities environment
• Very strong communication skills from executive level through to shop floor
• Ability to travel for 50 % of the time
• Strong systemic and strategic thinking balanced with a practical realism
• Strong analytic skills and problem-solving capability tempered with a bias for action
• Ability to influence others and build relationships in all levels of the organization
• Ability to train others in Utilities Systems & Management
