Systems and Desktop Support Engineer

Location: CBD, Cape Town
Salary: R20k per month, negotiable

A cellular solutions provider is looking to expand it’s Infrastructure team. The successful candidate will be working as part of a highly skilled and dynamic company that builds and supports applications in a technically exciting and challenging industry.

Requirements:
3 years’ IT support experience essential
Linux essential
Windows Desktop Support, Printer Support and Server Support essential
MCSE, A+, N+ IT Qualifications
Must have own reliable transport
Experienced in computer networking and servers
Willingness to learn and expand into basic Linux essential
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office systems and applications including Server Suite
Excellent understanding of Active Directory, Single Sign on, DNS, Symantec Backup Exec, NAS/SAN Technology, Network switching and cabling
Network firewalls and Linux administration
Linux tasks and Virtualization tasks and administration
Understanding of Apple Macintosh products
Virtualizing and Cloud experience & knowledge
Must be willing to work over-time on short notice basis
SAGE Pastel knowledge and experience is an advantage

Duties:
Providing assistance to end users with day to day desktop support related changes and problems
Setting up workstations and installing software printers
Assisting with all basic computer related queries
Daily health checks of all systems including Firewall, Switches, VM’s, Cloud Services, Backups, etc.
Assembling laptops and desktop workstations
Administering the Biometrics device (new starters & leavers)
Trouble shooting computer/network performance by using Cacti, Nagios
Logging tickets on Redmine
Adhering to the company standby roster 24/7 for systems monitoring
Taking ownership for internal IT asset register and purchase order system
