The qualifications and experience of the systems engineer should be as follows: An Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering qualification with at least 5 years post qualification experience in the maintenance department of an industrial manufacturing operation, A B-Tech qualification would be an added advantage. A B Sc Engineering or B Eng degree with at least 2 years experience Must have a good appreciation of industrial instrumentation,particularly temperature, pressure measurement, and control valves (both pneumatic and electrical actuation). Background The manufacturing operation of the client includes two float glass lines, a rolled glass line, and an offline cutting operation. The manufacturing operation is highly automated, in particular on the two float lines. The systems include the following: PLC control, with extensive use of both closed loop control and highly complex discrete control. Motion control, robotics, and extensive use of variable speed drives A highly integrated Rockwell Factory Talk View SCADA system, An OSI-Soft PI/ Factory Talk Historian historian, FT Asset centre Two SQL-server database systems, Two PC-based glass defect inspection systems, A Microsoft Windows 2003 Active Directory domain An Ethernet network, with CISCO, Allen-Bradley, and Hirschmann equipment, and two firewalls to interface the network to both the PG Group commercial network and the Internet, The skills required include the following: Have a working knowledge of control system that include multiple PLCs, and complex inter-PLC communication using industrial networks. Have a working knowledge of variable speed drives and PLC/Drive integration, using industrial networks. Should also have experience of commissioning of drives in a new installation.Having an understanding of motion control using PLCs, servo drives and servo motors, A fully competent with medium-sized Ethernet networks in an industrial environment. This should include experience with layer 2 and layer 3 switches, and firewalls. The candidate should have experience of configuring such equipment. Specific experience with CISCO equipment in these areas would be an added advantage.The candidate should be fully competent with SCADA systems. The candidate should have experience with large integrated SCADA systems, with multiple servers. Should be fully competent with installing and configuring SCADA software packages in a Windows 2003/2008 server environment, where such servers are part of a larger integrated system. Specific experience with Rockwell Factory Talk View SE is highly desirable.The candidate should have a clear understanding of network security, how this is applied in an industrial environment, and defence in depth concepts. The candidate should have a working knowledge of the following:Windows XP operating system, Windows 7 operating system, Windows 2003 server, Windows 2008 server, Windows 2003/2008 active directory, Microsoft SQL server 2005/2008 In addition the candidate should be full competent to install a Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows 2003, or Windows 2008 operating system on a PC or server, configure it correctly, add this PC/server to a network, install application software on the PC/server, and commission the application. Good written and spoken communication skills. This position will require the candidate to communicate with suppliers in United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany. DUTIES WILL INCLUDE: Monitoring of key computer and network equipment, Administration and execution of backup strategy, as applied to area of responsibility, Updating of software packages, including but not limited to the following: Anti-virus, Windows updates (via a WSUS server) Application software updates (mainly Rockwell software packages),Doing maintenance on all servers, and ley workstations where equired.Rebuilding any servers or workstations that have failed, Training other technical personnel, Problem solving of a technical nature requiring immediate action to ensure continuity of production, In the area of new construction and upgrading of facilities, obtain quotations, provide cost estimates related to the electrical and control parts of the project.
