JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: Is responsible for implementation of an effective taxation function. This includes tax compliance issues, monitoring of potential risks as well as identifying and implementing tax efficient structures within the group. In conjunction with the Group Tax Manager, will act as an advisor on all aspects of the group’s tax position and as a key point of contact on any tax enquiries.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):
• The primary focus will be to advise the Mining business units on various tax implications of their South African and foreign operations.
• Advise all business units on various tax implications of their foreign operations.
• The applicant should demonstrate an understanding of increasingly complex tax concepts and effectively apply his/her tax knowledge to situations.
• The applicant should be able to accurately analyze information and prepare practical and creative approaches tailored to a specific tax situation, arriving at appropriate conclusions.
• Develop and deliver innovative tax planning ideas with timely, responsive services and work products that meet business unit expectations.
• Optimizing the tax base in different countries.
• Tax research on Income Tax, PAYE, VAT, Social Contributions etc. in South Africa and foreign jurisdictions.
• Manage compliance in South Africa and foreign jurisdictions, including reviews of direct and indirect tax compliance in foreign jurisdictions.
• Manage / Attend to queries in South Africa and in foreign jurisdictions.
• Tax Accounting for Financial Reporting purposes in terms of IFRS.
• Liaison with the Auditors.
• Travel to foreign jurisdictions to deal and negotiate with tax authorities.
• Travel to foreign jurisdictions to discuss complex tax matters with local consultants and tax authorities.
• Review of Transfer Pricing Implementation in South Africa and foreign jurisdictions.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• A B.Comm (Accountancy) degree with a post graduate qualification in Tax. Preferably a CA (SA)
EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of 5 years relevant tax experience in business or industry.
• Exposure to international taxation and specifically tax in African countries will be an advantage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• The incumbent must be pro-active in identifying potential problems and creating solutions.
• High level of organizational skills and ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects at a time and meet multiple deadlines in a fast paced environment.
• Must have the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization and with various outside consultants as needed.
• Adaptable and should be able to cope under pressure.
• Be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Some travel to local and foreign subsidiaries will be required.
