Technical Advisor: Clinical Training & Teaching

SM Healthcare Placements is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Technical Advisor: Clinical Training & Teaching based Johannesburg, Gauteng for an exciting role within an International NGO in the health care field.

Main purpose of the job
To participate in the formulation and effective implementation of the clinical training and teaching strategy in alignment with overall health and research programmes and organizational strategy, and support the goals of the HSS programme in particular.

Key performance areas
• With the Technical Head, develop the strategy for pre service training
• With the technical head and relevant programme managers develop the strategies for CSW and research programmes clinical training.
• Provide technical expertise at DOH, donor and other PEPFAR and stakeholder meetings as required
• Contribute to the development/revision of policies and plans at the district, provincial and national levels
• Collaborate with other specialist teams and stakeholders at the Institute to review, develop new or revise existing strategies based on programme outputs
• Generate reports on activity outputs in technical area
• Liaise with the Training Manager: Curricula and Materials development to schedule annual materials review, and priorities reviews according to guideline changes
• Review and change participants manuals/presentations according to guideline changes and advice the Instructional designer of changes required for facilitator manuals and workbooks.
• Engage in the development of new clinical curricula and materials
• Facilitate and assess pilots of new programmes and train trainers
• Provide clinical services at CMJAH antenatal unit
• Take responsibility under 909090 for some hospital targets at CMJAH as part of the hospital team
• Identify areas in the relevant health care system that need to be strengthened to ensure effective implementation of the area’s technical strategy
• Train and mentor staff within the ANC and O&G units
• Coach and train internal and external stakeholders (Including but not limited to staff members and DoH trainers) in your technical area to ensure transfer of knowledge
• Attend to all staffing requirements and administration
• Supervise and manage the duties of subordinates to ensure optimal staff utilization and maintenance of sound labour relations.
• Perform and facilitate performance development and assessments.
• Identify substandard performance by team members and take necessary corrective action.
• Coach and train subordinates and team members to ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills required by the organization.
• Promote harmony, teamwork and sharing of information.


Required minimum education, training and personal abilities
• MBBCh or equivalent.
• Registration with HPCSA
• HIV Management qualification. HIV diploma/ equivalent. Masters in Public Health / Epidemiology.
• Experience in working with donor funded programmes and writing grant proposals and protocols.
• Experience in supervising / managing staff.
• Experience in training and lecturing.
• Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Ability to understand and manage team dynamics with particular reference to matrix structures.
• Positive, energetic team member with an ability to adapt to complex situations.
• Adaptable, willing to take initiative.
• Understanding of budget management.
• Strong organizational skills with an accurate approach to work, attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
• 5 years experience in the public health field including at least 2 years of experience in HIV medicine and 2 years of training/teaching.
