PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Reporting to the Business Insurance Manager the Technical Broker will be responsible for providing technical broking services on both new and existing clients, including the new renewal processes and ad hoc requests for cover. To ensure all commercial accounts are serviced in accordance with the Company’s Technical Broking Standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education -
o Matric
o Level 4 FETC Short-term Insurance Qualification
o Higher Certificate in Insurance
o Post-matric qualification is an advantage (BCom. Risk/Accounting, BBA)

Experience -
o Junior Technical Broker
- Minimum 5 years’ short-term insurance with 3 of the 5 years in a commercial service, claims and underwriting capacity
- Solid technical brokering experience with heavy commercial vehicles
o Medium Technical Broker
- Minimum 7 years’ short term insurance with 5 of the 7 years in a commercial account servicing service, claims and underwriting capacity
- Solid technical brokering experience with heavy commercial vehicles
o Senior/Specialist Technical Broker
- Minimum 10 years’ short term insurance with 7 of the 10 years in a commercial specialist account servicing service, claims and underwriting capacity
- Solid technical brokering experience with heavy commercial vehicles
- Experience in customer liaison; building and maintaining relationships
- Experience working in a Brokerage is preferred

Key Performance Areas and Outputs
1. Technical Broking
o Set up and create broking information in accordance with The Company’s Minimum Standards for Commercial Business
o Structure an appropriate insurance program for the client
o Obtain quotes and negotiate with selected markets
o Upon acceptance of quote, ensure receipt of signed proposal instruction and debit order forms (where applicable)
o Send closing instruction to insurer to provide cover for client
o Send the Confirmation of cover form to client
o Load policy information onto the system and create client file.
o Issue invoices on policies (new polices, cash clients etc)
o Ensure that clients receive policy documents and wording.
o Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines.
o Ensure receipt of premium payments and allocation to correct account
o Update register in terms of new business received
o Endorsements on existing client files and mailing to clients
o Auditing/reporting of premium list for unpaid premiums
o Compile and submit reports timeously to line manager as per set standard


2. Administration
o Ensure data integrity on all systems
o Attend to general correspondence and e-mails to clients according to company standards
o Ensure to all declaration and other policy adjustments when required.


3. Quotations
o Obtain full details regarding client risk required to quote
o Request quotes from insurers
Analyze quotes received and make recommendations to clients

4. Customer Services Excellence
o Provide a rewarding service experience at all touch points
o Ensure that customer queries are attended to and resolved expeditiously
o Attend to all client queries (revision/ renewals, rate negotiations with insurers, amendments, cancellations, unpaid premiums)
o Minimise cancellations through regular and pro-active dealings with clients
