Overall purpose of the position:

The purpose of the position will be to supervise a team of Commercial Lines Underwriting Consultants which will include the day-to-day operations of the team and also to oversee that all underwriting activities are resolved in accordance with the relevant service level agreement as well as the established guidelines and procedures.

The ideal candidate for the role will be a client focussed, quality orientated and deadline driven individual capable of adapting to a complex and fast paced environment. The person will have previous experiencing leading and/or supervising a team within the short-term insurance industry.

Key activities:
• Supervising a team of Commercial Lines Underwriting Consultants
• Identify the training and development requirements of the team members
• Monitor the performance of each team member, provide feedback in this regard and implement suitable corrective action where applicable
• Report, investigate and assist with disciplinary action where required
• Develop and maintain efficient professional relationships with colleagues and brokers
• Coordinate daily Commercial Lines Underwriting activities
• Improve on service delivery by monitoring work quality and procedures
• Investigate and resolve complaints received from colleagues and brokers
• Resolve escalated and/or complex queries
• Complete monthly analysis of data and reporting

Qualifications & Experience:
• Full NQF Level 4 Short-Term Insurance Qualification and/or minimum FAIS credits
• Regulatory Exam Level 1 successfully completed
• Minimum 3 years’ Commercial Lines Underwriting experience
• Minimum 5 years´ working experience within the short-term insurance industry
• Previous supervisory experience will serve as an advantage
