An established organization based in Pietermaritzburg is requiring a Test Engineer to join their Test Department team.

The purpose of this position is to determine and recommend suitable test methods, design test jigs (hardware, firmware and software), write production software and produce documentation of the test equipment for the testing of the organization’s products on the production line. It will also require project planning for new projects and leadership of the Test Department.

Requirements:

• BSC Degree (Electronic Engineering) or suitable equivalent
• Previous Test Engineering experience (at least 5 years)
• Programming skills (in particular C++)
• A good working knowledge of electronic hardware and firmware
• PCB CAD layout skills (ideally Altium/Protel)
• Good time management skills and be able to plan test engineering projects
• Excellent communication and interaction skills
• Must have leadership ability at least 5 years’ experience
• Previous experience in the electronics manufacturing industry
• A logical problem solver

Responsibilities:

• Planning and monitoring of Test Engineering projects
• Leadership of the Test Department
• Interfacing with Engineering
• The determination of suitable test methods for new products
• The sourcing and/or design of suitable test gear and fixtures
• Writing of suitable software/firmware for jigs
• Writing of other software required by production – e.g. Label printing, etc
• Debugging pf jig hardware and software
• Solving of breakdowns and root cause analysis
• Organizing regular jig breakdown reviews and implementation of suitable corrective actions
• Mentoring of other members of the Test Department
