As the Transplant Coordinator you will be responsible for the coordination of organ transplantation. A successful candidate will serve as a liaison and provide consultation and education services to support standards of care.

Responsibilities include promoting organ transplant awareness in relevant groups and ensuring the viability of referred organs, as well as:

Legal Compliance

• Ensuring strict adherence to the National Health Act 61 of 2003 and Human Tissue Act No 65 1983 as amended.

Record Keeping

• Keeping accurate patient records at all times in compliance with inherent to the institutions administration policy.

Financial Assistance

• Collecting and collating all accounts relating to the donor and recipient as per the Group and Transplant Standard Operating Policies.

Transplant Coordination

• Ensuring the promotion of evidence-based practice relating to the potential organ donor and management.
• Obtaining consent for organ retrieval from relatives of potential organ donors.
• Maintaining clinical support of a potential donor.
• Communicating effectively and diplomatically with recipient coordinators, transplant Surgeons and Physicians.
• Determining the logistical feasibility and financial implication concerning transfers, flights and all donor costs.
• Participating in organ transplant program planning and management within the health system.

Requirements include:

• Registration with SANC.
• Qualification in Medical and Surgical Intensive Care or Emergency Nursing.
• Current and valid CPR certification.
• Current and valid ACLS certification.
• Minimum of 5 years ICU or Trauma experience.
• Minimum of 2 years clinical experience post qualification
