This Company is one of the largest wholesalers and distributors of frozen foods in the country. With their primary focus being on frozen meat and chicken, they also offer a range of frozen vegetables, French fries, value-added potato products and processed meats. The company proudly markets its products to a vast number of clients throughout South Africa and its neighbouring countries.

The Johannesburg branch is in need of a need of a livewire TRANSPORT MANAGER who can take the "bull by the horns", an active individual who is definitely “hands on” and at the same time can step back and hold his supervisor and 2 x clerks (briefer and de briefer who rotate) accountable for the day to day operations.

So we are looking for a

Job Description

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Will include and not limited to:

• Facilitate and monitor all operational activities to ensure compliance with legal, health, safety and other regulatory requirements which govern
the business operations.
• Track and communicate measurements of transportation effectiveness and efficiency and provide performance based data for numerous
aspects – CPK etc.
• Route planning knowledge and experience
• Ensure achievement and exceeding of targets through the active monitoring of monthly, quarterly and annual financial plans against actual
performance, with emphasis on continual cost reduction
• Delivery to transport department KPI`s to ensure value added services with regards to: (Diesel Consumption, vehicle condition, vehicle
maintenance and Repair, maintain good tire condition at affordable costs driver Wages, Incentives, hours of work, driver and crew behaviour,
driver and crew performance tracking, investigate store claims, stock shortages and driver in store behavioural complaints, ability to take
remedial/disciplinary action in line with the company code of conduct
• Direct the daily activity to ensure a safe, secure, clean and fair work environment for the team, interacting with all internal and external labour
providers and customers
• Directing and allocating driver resources according to planned roster, in line with and according to operational requirements
• Through the brief and debrief clerk, managing debriefing of drivers. Ensure debriefs are up to standard and correctly communicated to all the
relevant role players.
• Following up on maintenance check sheets – Driver daily check sheets as well as Controller weekly check sheets.
• Manage 3rd party transporters to ensure consistent customer service and on-time delivery.
• Overall management of the depot “yard” wash bay, diesel pump and park and stop areas
• Active involvement with research and development on the utilization of latest available technology where appropriate with emphasis on continual
cost reduction
• Coach, mentor and counsel direct reports towards continuous performance and business growth
• Improvement and execution of the leadership promise
• Instil monitor and enforce a culture of risk awareness that will support action plan activities to ensure the elimination of all risks both internally as
well as externally (on the road)
• Ensuring customer satisfaction through monthly reporting and analyses
• Liaising with sales team in order to meet customer requirements
• Reporting on any stock related issues to both sales and cold store management

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric/ Grade 12.
• Tertiary qualification in transportation/logistics management.
• Minimum of three to five years' previous experience in a transport management environment.
• MS Office Proficient
• Able to work overtime as per operational requirements.
• Valid driver’s license
• Excellent planning execution and follow up skills
• Able to work under pressure and work well with people
• Therefore, a strong team player.
• Strong communication ability
• Being able to converse comfortably in isiZulu/Sotho will be advantageous
