DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Only BEE candidates need apply)

Operational Deliverables
1. Prepare, issue and coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs in order to:
• Ensure 100% adherence to time, frequency and regulatory
requirements
• Consistently meet customer requirements
• Minimise total cost/km (i.e. wear and tear, diesel, labour, etc.)
• Maximise capacity utilisation
2. Clear Every vehicle for Every Departure and Return by confirming that:
• Health & Safety Essentials are in place
• Personnel are compliant (i.e. present, punctual, presentable & trained)
• All Vehicle Standards are met: Safety, Roadworthiness, Compliance &
Cleanliness
• Specified Pick-ups & Drop-Off’s are confirmed
• Documentary Proof is 100% complete & accurate
• Strict departure times are met
• All Waste Regulations for storage & transportation have been complied
with
3. Systemically record, prioritise and act on all cases where the vehicle has not
been cleared for Departure or Return
Fleet Management
1. Allocate and dispatch vehicles in accordance with Vehicle Utilisation
procedures that indicate when certain types of vehicles are to be used, how
they are to be used, by whom they can be used, and for what purpose.
2. Monitor and maintain the condition of the company’s fleet in a manner that:
• Is Cost effective
• Is Quick and responsive
• Safeguards the lifespan of the vehicle
3. Monitor and analyse fuel consumption to ensure trip efficiency and
compliance
Health and Safety
1. Monitor and correct crew practices in terms of handling, transportation,
vehicle cleanliness and disinfection, PPE equipment and consumables,
personal hygiene of crew members, and house keeping of crew spaces e.g.
locker rooms
2. Order, issue, monitor and maintain sufficient stock of PPE equipment and
consumables pertaining to crews and their vehicles.
People Management
1. Rotate and allocate staff to meet daily operational requirements in accordance
with the relevant HR policies on Staff Rotation, Leave and Compensation
2. Orientate and integrate stand-by relievers into operational requirements
3. Generate, update and implement a quarterly leave schedule and monthly
overtime plans.
4. Motivate, monitor, correct, reward and record the performance of every crew.
5. Lead formally documented sessions for troubleshooting and feedback for
every crew on a regular basis (weekly minimum)
6. Understand, support and participate in a recruitment and selection process
that spans advertising, screening, interviewing, and placement
7. Develop, coordinate and lead the orientation process for new crewmembers
from beginning to end
Administration
1. Maintain a manual/electronic and confidential archive of records that:
• Demonstrates rational sorting (i.e. alphabetical/chronological order)
• Is tagged or labeled to allow for version control
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
The Transport Supervisor must possess/demonstrate:
1. Matric and a post-tertiary qualification (i.e. Diploma/Degree/professional
certification)
2. At least 4 years in a fleet and transportation environment, three years of
which must have been in a supervisory role.
3. Proficiency in the following applications:
• Microsoft Word (Intermediate) – tables, formatting, templates, etc.
• Microsoft Excel (Intermediate) – graphs, charts, data sorting, etc.
• Microsoft Outlook (Basic) – calendars, meeting invitations
• Microsoft Powerpoint (Basic) – presentations,
4. Strong digital literacy skills e.g. cloud storage, GPS navigation, etc.
5. Basic knowledge of disciplinary procedures and bargaining council regulations
(i.e. NBCRFI)
6. Code 8 Driver’s license with a PdP; Code 10 license will be an advantage
7. Strong operational knowledge of transportation, including statutory and
regulatory provisions on road and freight transportation, vehicle constraints
(i.e. payloads, maximum loads, etc.)
8. Good knowledge of maps, routes and major geographic areas in the Gauteng
Province
9. Good written and verbal communication skills in English
10. Spoken fluency in at least one indigenous African language (e.g. seSotho/
sePedi/ seTswana/ isiXhosa/ isiZulu, etc.)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Although a supervisory position, the general environment and job requirements of
subordinates could be considered physically demanding. As a supervisor of this
environment, the supervisor may encounter work that is physically demanding or
strenuous.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
The Transport Supervisor will report directly to the Logistics Manager. It is expected
that the Transport Supervisor will directly oversee the activities of all drivers,
assistants, crew members and site workers involving in the collection, transportation
and on-site management of waste.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The working area of the Transport Supervisor is generally within the office space,
the warehouse and the vehicle yard of the company. The working hours are from
7am to 5pm Monday through Friday and 7am to 12pm every alternating weekend
(i.e. Saturday and Sunday) for vehicles that are dispatched on these days.
Performance of the business requirements could mean leaving the company
premises to client sites, subcontractors, or various other positions on the normal
route of drivers. By virtue of the industry, the Transport Supervisor
may be required to attend sites considered hazardous. The company has over 350
public and private clients and dozens of suppliers and subcontractors of which some
may be difficult.
