A position has risen in an Engineering company. The Vehicle Systems Engineer position will support Defence vehicle programs for locally assembled products / systems. This position includes traditional Systems Engineering activities within the vehicle environment as well as to provide technical expertise to Project Managers, Program Analysts, Procurement departments and Product System Engineers

KEY AREAS

On-going product support of technical data packs, configuration management systems, design updates and ECP's.
New product development support or lead activities when required.
This position will also be concerned with providing technical expertise to Project Managers, Program Managers, Program Analysts, Procurement departments, Product System Engineers and liaison with Defence Vehicle Dealers and clients.
Development of test specifications for all commissioning and system tests; as well as ad-hoc tests. Such specifications shall be detailed enough to allow the T&E department to develop sufficient Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP’s), Test Instructions (TI’s) and Qualification Test Instructions (QTPs) to ensure that all tests conducted covers all requirements in the system development specifications.
Auditing and formally declaring contracted deliverables ready for delivery to the appropriate project managers.
Ensure that all systems that have sufficiently passed commissioning are formally declared fit for T&E, OT&E and released by Quality Assurance department.
Project and Programme Management Team participation and management contributions where required.
Customer interactions, presentations and reviews; where required.
Mentoring and coaching of junior engineers if and when required.
Apply all applicable company policies, procedures and work instructions to the best of your ability

JOB REQUIREMENTS

BSc or BTech Mechanical/Electrical.
Five years engineering / technical experience.
Two years gained within the vehicle OEM industry.
Knowledge of heavy duty commercial vehicles is highly beneficial.
System engineering experience is beneficial.
Understanding of vehicle configuration management and compilation of technical data packs.
Problem solving and ability to make/take decisions.
Ability to lead technical personnel.
Ability to liaise with people on all levels.
Must be driven by learning, innovation and technical excellence.
Must be able to perform under pressure and keep to promised commitments.
Ability to travel locally and abroad when required.
Team player and willingness to impart knowledge and experience to young engineers and project managers.

Frequent visits to suppliers and OEM's.
Working in a fairly unstructured environment with local component manufacturers.
