Our client, a leading international Mining Group is looking for a qualified and highly experienced Vice President Engineering specialist at the Corporate office in Weltevreden Park in Roodepoort.

The appointee should:

Have a BSC Degree / National Diploma in Engineering
Have a Government Certificate of Competency
Have an Executive Management Leadership Development Programme or equivalent
Have professional registration with ECSA
Have more than 15 years’ experience in a related role, of which 7 should have been at a senior management level or experience in a functional area (preferably mining environment)
Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the relevant Sibanye Stillwater Occupational Health Centre

Key responsibilities include:

Drive and participates actively in the formulating and reviewing overall long-term strategies for the Engineering function by identifying the short, medium and long term needs in support of long-term strategic direction of the organisation
Provide Engineering expertise and advise Executive Management on strategic issues within the scope of the Engineering function that could impact on business
Interpret Sibanye Stillwater business and Engineering strategies and plans for the company in order to translate into the vision, strategic and operational plans for the Engineering function.
Ensure Engineering strategic and operational plans are executed in all operations; and engineering audits conducted frequently in the Engineering function from a corporate perspective
Analyse bench marked figures in order to highlight long term cost effective opportunities, make recommendations to the company based on these figures and results.
Investigate business implications of medium and long term planning using knowledge of pure theory and knowledge of current trends and developments to devise or modify new or existing procedures and systems.
Keeps abreast of latest developments, innovations and technologies nationally with an emphasis on engineering aspects, by means of liaising with other mining houses and research organizations, and by representing the Company at industry level.
Identify and evaluate opportunities and synergies both inside and outside current mine areas.
Set goals, establish priorities, manage resource, and develop concepts and approaches, review projects progress and results and make management decisions.
Overseer, direct and evaluate engineering programs, plans and criteria for a variety of activities and ensure alignment to business needs
Provides leadership in terms of strategic integration and alignment, specialist advice and guidance and the creation of a strong Engineering culture by conducting regular engagements with teams
Assess skills, Manage career planning, training and development of the Engineering teams on an ongoing basis by identifying short and long-term skills/training needs in relation to anticipated departmental and business requirements.
Participates in the selection of consulting engineers, oversees and reviews their work product.
Manage stakeholders and/or acts as a liaison between agencies or work unit and other agencies, work units, organizations, suppliers, etc.
Consults and/or negotiates regularly with other corporate functions to achieve outcomes favourable to the discipline or the resolution of issues that affect the discipline or its people, to enhance the image of the Engineering function.
