One of South Africa’s leading companies in the Media and Entertainment space is on the lookout for a VOD Specialist / Software Engineer.
Our client has a focus on technology. To deliver on their focus they have built a team of passionate and intelligent technologists that work in an environment that fosters creativity and where innovation is core to their success.
They are looking for a candidate that requires little to no supervision, is driven, enthusiastic, detail oriented, and learns quickly. The candidate must have a solid background in software development and an interest (and preferably experience) in online video technologies such as adaptive streaming, knowledge of video and audio codecs, streaming servers and software, video on web and mobile devices. They must also have some mobile development experience (Android or iOS).
Accountabilities will include: Proof of concept work on new technologies, development of supporting services, optimization of existing services and applications and the designing of new systems, workflows and services (mostly in the video on demand space).

Skills Required:
- Higher Diploma or Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent (Computer science related)
- Minimum 3 years development experience in C# or Java.
- Experience with SOAP and REST services
- Mobile technology and/or mobile development background (iOS / Android)
- Understanding and/or experience with SOA and ESB technologies / concepts
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Understanding of design patterns and good programming practices
- Document designs, POC results and services
- DRM experience (Widevine, PlayReady, Flash Access)
- VOD Workflow experience (ingest, encoding etc)
- Experience with streaming servers and media servers (e.g. Woza, AMS)
- Understanding of codecs and containers (e.g H.264, H.265, MPEG2, MPEG4, AAC)
- Experience with Adaptive streaming (HLS, HDS, DASH, Smooth)
- Understanding of CDN technologies and transport protocols
- Agile & TDD experience
- Experience with HTML 5
- Linux Experience
