WAREHOUSE MANAGER, Warehousing & Logistics

Job purpose:
To manage the work of all staff in a warehousing operation including receiving, picking, dispatching, returns and stock control.


Key responsibilities
• Ensure that stock is controlled in a manner that ensures that the condition and quantity of the stock is maintained and the location and description of the stock is known
• Checking the work performed by staff members within the operation
• Ensure that all warehouse staff knows and understands the Standard Operating Procedures and that they are continuously followed
• Provide on the job training
• Understand staffing requirements and ensure that adequate staff levels are in place
• Ensure that all staff are well managed, to improve productivity, reduce overtime and ensure that staff are motivated and productive
• Supervise the use and maintenance of material handling equipment
• Monitor time and attendance of staff and ensure that wages are controlled
• Provide regular reports of all areas of the operation and reporting to the Operations Manager
• Ensure that all stock discrepancies are resolved within 24 hours
• Ensure that all stock being received is correctly checked and put away on a daily basis
• Ensure that cycle counts and stock takes are conducted and that the results are reported on
• Ensure that all orders on the system are picked by close of business each day as per the customer requirements
• Ensure all administrative functions are done such as bookings, downloading of orders onto the system, communicating of urgent deliveries, filing of documentation
• Ensure that the condition of the facility is maintained
• Ensure that all IT hardware and systems are working correctly
• Ensure that all Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed
• Ensure that the facility and stock are adequately secured and that all Loss Control policies and procedures are implemented
• Ensure that the warehouse is maintained in a neat and tidy condition and housekeeping is done on a regular basis

Minimum requirements:
• Matric
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in warehousing with management roles and responsibilities for at least 3 of the 5 years
• Logistics related certificate / diploma / degree

Knowledge requirements:
• Working knowledge of warehousing stock control practices
• Values SOPs pertaining to the operation
• Client requirements including cut off times and KPIs
• Value Code of Conduct and HR policies
• Internal and external services pertaining to the operation
• Value IT systems, their role and how they work as well as client IT systems where relevant
• Value Quality Instruction Manual
• Packaging standards and requirement for warehousing and distribution purposes
• Warehouse layout, ABC calculations and inventory positioning techniques
• Value policies and procedures
• Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993 and the requirements thereof
• ISO 9001
