Minimum requirements:

Technical Grade 12 (N3); Completed a recognised welding apprenticeship and passed a recognised trade test in the trade of welding. 10+ years’ experience as a welder
Be competent in Carbon and low alloy steel welding with the SMAW,GMAW,OFW, GTAW AND SAW processes in 1F,2F,3F, 4F , 1G plate welding and 1G rotated pipe welding, which includes hard facing and weld restoration; Must be assessed as competent in a fillet fracture tests, macro for fillet welds and bend tests or X-ray for groove welds; Must be able to perform welds in the flat position; Must be assessed as competent in welding 6 test coupons. Travel constantly a prerequisite of the position.


Duties:

Interpret and follow weld procedures.
The artisan must be able to read and understand drawings and weld symbols.
 To Follow QAP and work instructions
The artisan must be competent in the use of all required measuring instrumentation
Operating of welding machines.
Analyze defective equipment, identify defective equipment and inform supervisors.
Knowledge transfer
Adhere to company policies.
 Welding components in all positions (Flat, Vertical, Horizontal, Overhead, & 6G Pipe
Perform all cleaning and grinding of metals
Operating of Cold cutter/beveling machine.
Ability to measure and work out lengths for pipes to be cut to drawing size.
Must be able to work out weld shrinkage.
Take ownership and responsibility for product to be correct.
 Adhere to schedules and apply time management to jobs.
Understand distortion and corrective actions.
Ability to use initiative as well as problem –solving skills while welding to ensure that the required specifications are met.
Transfer all IMIR numbers and W/O numbers on the part that is being welded. (Traceability)
 All Shop Packets/QAP to be signed off after completion of each task
Ensure TAF (Travel Arrangement form are completed and approved before travelling)
 Approved Timesheet hours to be completed on a weekly basis and send through to Supervisor.
Concur expenses to be completed on return of trip and signed by Supervisor.
 AFB Leave form to be filled out and approve by Supervisor.
 Adhere and comply with all safety signage and PPE requirements.
Ensure before travelling that an Away from Base presentation takes place before travelling out of SA.
VISMO Phone for hazardous areas a must. (Process to be understood).
 Ensure a Travel Authorization form is filled out and approved by the
Head of Security and Director for Hazardous areas.
 Ensure all documents such as passports, visas, seafarers medicals are up to date.
