Do machine loading and worker allocation.
Establish whether the correct steel is available - if not, submit request to order.
Issue steel and consumables to workers.
Issue drawings to boilermakers once material is cut.
Understand drawings and assist with making up of jigs. Check jigs before commencing with assemblies.
Ensure that jobs are completed on time
When jobs are revised, pull old drawings out of the workshop and replace with revisions. Make sure revisions are affected.
Make sure all drawings are recorded in the book and signed off on completion.
Monitor and review capacity utilisation relative to existing and projected work requirements.
Propose changes in technologies, labour practices, and capacities to improve output.

Ensure all material is cut and ready for boiler makers before they start a job.
Continuously ensure that all material needed for a job is here and notify the Fabtrol office early if it is not.
Make sure you clearly understand drawings before they are issued to boilermakers and get detailers to fix drawings if necessary prior to issuing to the boilermakers. Carefully review all detail drawings at least 2 days prior to their being issued into the shop, then plan around what is required, cut T's, split beams, rolling to radius, order off mill rolling's, order PG blanks early, prepare early so that when the boilermakers get their drawings they have all the parts they require.
Manage material flow at all times, including moving of materials at low peak hours (after hours if necessary) to ensure that cranes are available during busy working hours.
Utilise to do lists to make sure that you keep track of all work requirements.

Implement better ways of doing things.
Set work levels and tasks for night shift workers and follow up in the morning to ensure that production levels are met.
Ensure proper planning and always follow up to satisfactory conclusion of all tasks.
Ensure that boilermakers have work at their tables at all times, ensure that nobody waits for instructions. Boilermakers must receive their drawings at least one day ahead of when they will start the job, this will give their assistants time to collect all parts and notify you if there is a problem with the parts they need, this way the boilermaker remains busy and it will give you time to make alternative arrangements to keep the boilermaker busy if he cannot continue with the intended job for whatever reason.
Managing overtime, overtime costs are high, this needs to be managed on a daily basis, I don't want to see spare people hanging around not being productive. Make sure this overtime is productive by setting goals on performance during overtime or being available on the floor at all times during overtime. Set goals for night shift work every day and follow up in the morning to ensure that goals are met (discipline if necessary). Utilise afterhours work to manage the flow of materials through the factory, cranage is very limited during normal working hours so arrange for material to be placed where required at night so as to free up cranage in busy periods.
Create a man-hour schedule for the different disciplines of work.
